High School Assistant Principal

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Secondary Principal’s Certification
5 or more years of secondary teaching experience
3.0 or higher QPA
Proof of ongoing professional development or educational experience
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Computer literacy

Job Goal:
To develop and implement an educational program which meets the needs of all students enrolled at the high school and to create a caring, safe, positive learning environment; to assist the principal in providing schoolwide leadership for students, staff, parents, and the community.

Performance Responsibilities:
To assist the principal in:
Instruction and Assessment:
1. Establishing goals and objectives for each school year
2. Implementing the Department of Education regulations, district goals and policies, and objectives of South Fayette Township School District
3. Supervising and evaluating professional staff members
4. Creating a working environment that encourages positive staff morale
5. Meeting with department chairs to assess the needs, progress, and concerns related to each department
6. Keeping staff informed of current educational trends
7. Instructional leadership skills in Project Based Learning experiences
8. Participate in the hiring process
9. Insuring that the district curriculum is being followed in the classroom and that teachers are regularly and fairly assessing students
10.Working to continually improve the achievement of all students
11.Supervising the scheduling for standardized testing
12.Meeting with the staff to interpret test results and implement strategies to use data effectively to improve achievement

Program Support
13.Maintaining a presence in the building during the arrival and dismissal of students, during class changes, at lunchtime, and at other times throughout the day as time permits to provide a safe and orderly environment in the building
14.Counseling and disciplining students whose behavior is disruptive to the classroom or violates school or district policies and procedures in the absence of the Deans of Students and/or when the situation warrants.
15.Conferencing with parents, teachers, and students regarding disciplinary actions
16.Meeting with the Dean of Students yearly to update the Student-Parent Handbook
17.Participating on the Student Assistance Team, RENEW Team, and Threat Assessment Team
18.Communicating the procedures for recommendations for referrals to the Student Assistance Team and other services available to students
19.Attending IEP, GIEP and 504 conferences
20.Overseeing the performance of substitute teachers
21.Conduct school safety drills as required by State code
22.Overseeing the eligibility of students who participate in extracurricular activities as prescribed in the Student-Parent Handbook
23.Overseeing the overall operation of the building on a daily basis
24.Maintaining a safe and secure facility for all staff and students
25.Completing special projects and other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or the Superintendent

26.Employing a empathetic approach in decisions affecting staff, students, parents, and the community
27.Maintaining an attitude of fairness and consistency in decisions affecting students and parents
28.Planning, supervising, and directing staff meetings
29.Reacting promptly and effectively in crisis situations
30.Demonstrating flexibility, dependability, ethical behavior, initiative, and creativity in decision-making
31.Actively participating in Leadership Team and Administrative meetings

Fiscal and Budgetary Management
32.Assisting and identifying and justifying monies to be spent in various categories of the budget each year
33.Assisting and preparing the high school budget and monitoring expenditures throughout the school year
34.Assisting and supervising monies deposited into and spent from student activity accounts

Home, School, and Community Relations
35.Responding to parent inquiries via phone, e-mail, or mail in a prompt and timely manner
36.Keeping parents informed of student attendance, classroom behavior, academic progress, and student achievement
37.Keeping parents informed of school events and activities through regular communication (e-mail distribution lists, monthly newsletters, etc.)
38.Representing the district at Parkway West Area Vocational-Technical School monthly meetings
39.Planning Commencement and its related activities
40.Encouraging staff and students to develop a sense of pride and spirit for South Fayette High School
41.Providing leadership in dealing with community needs, problems, and concerns regarding the school.
42.Presenting a positive image of South Fayette High School when information is solicited by the media
43.Representing South Fayette at various evenings, weekends and out of state trips and activities

44.Supervising the preparation of report cards and interim progress reports Professional Responsibilities
45.Demonstrating computer literacy by providing all correspondence and written
documentation using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel/Access) and Google Education Suite
46.Demonstrating computer literacy in using the administrative software program effectively to maintain and retrieve student information, grading, and attendance data and to maintain student grades and performance assessments
47.Checking and responding to e-mail and voice mail daily
48.Maintaining professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities
