Job Description

General Purpose:

Sound Transit has an exciting internship opportunity for the summer of 2019! This is for currently enrolled undergraduate students who want to have a real world experience in the transportation industry. This opportunity will allow the intern to gain valuable work experience within the Office of Small Business Development and Labor Compliance under our Executive Department.The Labor Intern will work with the Labor Compliance Manager, Labor Agreement Specialists, Substance Abuse Specialist and Project Compliance Monitors to learn and assist with four workforce development initiatives: mentoring; pre-apprenticeship support; support services; and respectful project site. The intern will also participate in workforce meetings, review workforce data, and assist with workforce surveys.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by the Intern. It is only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities and the Intern may be required to perform additional duties.

The Intern will:

* Assist the PLA Specialist in reviewing workforce data and assist the PLA Specialist in implementing strategies to address potential workforce shortages
* Assist the PLA Specialist with surveys to assess the Mentorship Matters Training Program
* Assist the PLA Specialist in monitoring the pre-apprenticeship support contracts to ensure that the deliverables are being met
* Work with the Substance Abuse Specialist to input worker data into the Substance Abuse Database

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must be a current college students in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited four year university Bachelor's Degree in Business, Sociology, Psychology or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Desire to learn and contribute to creating access to construction careers in the transportation industry.
* Interested in data gathering, data entry, data analysis and reporting.
* Strong writing skills
* General computer skills, strong communication skills, ability to be outdoors and on active construction sites.
* Desire to learn how workforce impacts the construction industry and major transportation projects.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

* Work is performed in a standard office environment.
* Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery when visiting job sites during construction and when working in the field.
