The Sports Product Manager is responsible for the end to end management of the Optus sport content product portfolio and associated propositions to ensure differentiation is leveraged successfully across Optus’ product portfolios.

 

Key areas of responsibility include supporting product and proposition development, delivery, lifecycle management, customer experience and profit & loss of the entertainment product portfolio in partnership and in collaboration with Optus Mobile and Fixed teams as well as a key exclusive and non-exclusive global and local sport partners.

 

This stimulating and dynamic role makes significant contributions to a key pillar of the Optus Strategic Plan; to excite our customers with a range of exclusive and non-exclusive content, delivered in an ever-increasing mobile and digital life where customer experience needs to be uncompromising. 

 

Additionally, the entertainment strategy will see Optus move from traditional telco to the entertainment and content provider of choice in Australia as it differentiates against other telco’s and content providers. A strong understanding of the global and local sports entertainment industry and markets along with a working understanding of navigating matrix organisations is essential to being successful in this role.    

 

This role is part of the Content & TV Product team reporting to the Associate Director for Product Management. The role is responsible for the sports portfolio product category and will collaborate with Product Managers in Entertainment, Music and Fetch TV to achieve a cohesive and comprehensive TV & Content product plan.

 

Your core duties will include…

 

  • Building customer value through the identification and development of compelling home and mobile entertainment product propositions that create market differentiation;
  • Growing the number of customers using entertainment products with Optus through demonstrable acquisition and retention initiatives;  
  • Collaborating with the Fixed and Mobile teams to ensure that entertainment product propositions and plans are aligned and support the broader business;  
  • Supporting relationship management with sports partners like the English Premier League (EPL);
  • Working with all sales and marketing teams to develop and implement tactical marketing programs to achieve plans and forecasted business outcomes;
  • Working with commercial teams to ensure the financial viability of entertainment offers and propositions along with business forecasts that are aligned across the business;
  • Supporting the achievement of financial and customer KPIs for entertainment portfolio products including the monitoring and analysing of metrics to inform tactical response and strategic changes; 
  • Providing regular entertainment portfolio performance, market and competitor analysis and commentary with supporting action plans; 
  • Building subject knowledge in home and mobile entertainment across market, industry and technology to be a SME that is actively sought across the business to inform and educate on the category;
  • Supporting the Associate Director and Director with the ongoing development of quarterly product marketing plans;
  • Working with the TV & Content leadership team to support the creation and ongoing maintenance of the 5-year TV & Content strategy; and
  • Working with content marketers to ensure a comprehensive content marketing narrative exists and is executed on in support of the sport portfolio.

 

Your checklist for success in the role...

 

  • Several years' experience in a product management or marketing environment in the telecommunications or television industry;
  • A degree in Marketing, Business or Engineering with in-depth knowledge of customer segmentation;  
  • Experience in proposition development based on deep customer insights;
  • Marketing plan development (product, pricing, promotion, distribution) and proven P&L / Budget management experience;  
  • Experience in driving programs of work for revenue outcomes and managing complex stakeholders;
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, excellent technical marketing skills, particularly with regard to analysis, customer segmentation and value proposition development;
  • Proactive in reporting progress to senior management and cross–functional teams;
  • Superior reporting and analytical skills, able to negotiate with key suppliers;
  • Top problem solving abilities, naturally collaborative, with advanced financial & commercial acumen;
  • Conceptual and strategic thinking ability, solid leadership and management skills; and
  • Results oriented with resilience in the face of change, high degree of initiative and awesome attention to detail.
