Job Description

Carolina Small Business Development Fund in partnership with Shaw University has established an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center in Southeast Downtown Raleigh. The Center's purpose is to: inspire, connect, encourage, and support startups, students and existing entrepreneurs. Through educational training, entrepreneurs and students will have access to the tools needed to build valuable companies and technical skills.

The Social Media Intern for the IEC will be responsible for coordinating and executing the IEC's social media strategy, working across key social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, IEC Website while maintaining CSBDF's marketing guidelines. The candidate will work closely with key staff members, to include CSBDF's Marketing & Communications Director. This role will be instrumental in increasing our social media presence and gaining visibility for our brand among entrepreneurs and Shaw students, faculty and alumni.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Update IEC's social media accounts (e.g. Twitter, IEC website, and other social media platforms) with activities, workshops, and events being held at the IEC
* Monitoring and replying to Social Media activities on a regular basis to build relationships with new and existing audiences (under the supervision of key staff)
* Participate in strategy discussions
* Ensure IEC events are advertised on Shaw's website and in their newsletters
* Draft the IEC's bi-weekly Newsletter (under the supervision of key staff)
* Open and close IEC for evening & weekend workshops when needed

Skills and Specifications

* Excellent verbal communication skills
* A strong interest in marketing, communications, social media, and reputation management
* Social Media channel management expertise
* An entrepreneurial attitude
* Ability to learn web tools rapidly (e.g. Simplicity, Eventbrite, etc.)
* Excellent attention to detail and a high motivation to learn

Education and Qualifications

* Current Shaw University Student in Good Academic Standing
* Able to participate in the program for the full duration of the internship (1 year)
* Sophomore or Junior
* 7 GPA and above
* Open to all majors, preferably Marketing & Communications
* Previous work experience a plus

Software associated with fulfilling the duties within this internship include, but not limited to:

* Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint)
* Adobe Acrobat
* Google Drive
* MailChimp
* Simplicity (Shaw online software management system)
