Job Description

Selman & Company is a leading provider of administrative services related to life & health insurance and similar products with offices in Cleveland & Washington, DC.

Location: Mayfield Heights, OH
Salary: $10.00 - $12.00/hour (based on experience)

We are searching for undergraduate or graduate students majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline to develop and support software programs and applications under the direction of our Senior Programmer. The SelmanCo Internship Program helps students acquire real-world skills that give them an added edge in the workplace.


General Functions:

  • Develop and support software programs and applications using Object Oriented programming eg C# and C++ .
  • Work independently and follow a project design documentation to a fully realized program
  • Efficiently use resources to find solutions to software related issues
  • Ability to troubleshoot unfamiliar programming languages
  • Analyze, design, develop, test and debug applications
  • Ability to work well with complexity
  • Ability to communicate effectively with IT Staff
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills; shares expertise with others


  • Currently enrolled in a University degree program in Computer Science or a related discipline at a Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate level.

Experience Preferred:

  • Object Oriented Programming
  • C#
  • C++
  • Familiarity & Confidence in using IT systems
  • Strong Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills.
  • Excellent Oral, Written & Interpersonal Communication skills.
  • Strong Organization and Planning skills; Attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Interested in a career in IT.
  • Ability to work 15-25 hours during the school year.


  • Operate computer and keyboard; able to use phone; sit for long periods.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
