Job Description

We are seeking a computer science or engineering related Masters or PhD student looking to start their career off right as a software development engineer in Seagate's exciting new Cloud Systems and Storage division. Post graduation you will join an intense and dedicated R&D team at the Software Engineer level and play a pivotal role in the development of current and future cloud storage offerings. You also will work at the company's flagship San Francisco SOMA location directly across the street from the Moscone Center and report directly into the Director of Engineering.

This high-profile position will require drive and creativity, as you will quickly be involved in developing critical and highly available cloud storage systems and managed services. You will work in a fast paced and cutting edge environment with experienced engineers and mentors developing efficient, capable and high quality systems able to meet the critical availability needs of clients and partners who entrust their data in the Seagate cloud.

- Design and develop new features for cloud-based software
- Design and develop prototypes and features for cloud-based software projects
- Work closely with both product owners, developers and testers in an Agile SCRUM team to deliver shippable software that meets customer expectations and supports the business's goals
- Working with various process, design, metrology, product teams in order to drive closure of functional gaps
- Leveraging knowledge and learning more about current software engineering methods in the earlier parts of development in order to look for opportunities for innovation and improvement
- Working with various process, design, metrology, product teams in order to drive closure of functional gaps
- Act as a technical evangelist internally and externally across various domain related technical meetings and conferences

- A Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering or other related engineering or science discipline
- Advanced technical skills in enhancing and producing high quality software products
- Knowledge of programming languages such as Java, Python and C/C
- Experience with Linux variants like Ubuntu and Red Hat
- Experience writing multi-threaded, multi-process and/or cross-platform software
- Experience developing software that integrates with relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL
- Very good written and verbal communication skills to be able to present, organize, lead and document complex technical projects
- Demonstrable ability to effectively multi-task and thrive within a fast-paced and highly challenging environment
- Ability to prioritize and execute one's own work independently in order to achieve established goals and project deadlines

Preferred Requirements:
- Experience with the cloud storage industry and with systems like Amazon's AWS
- Computer Science and/or software development related awards of excellence
- Professional Certifications and/or Accreditations for software engineering disciplines
