Job Description

Overview

As the Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI) Education intern, you will be spending a majority of your time providing leadership and learning activities to a variety of classes and conference settings in and around Juneau, AK. This will include working with children from the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian tribes at SHI's summer camps. The goal of Sealaska Heritage Institute is to promote cultural diversity and cross-cultural understanding through public services and events. You will participate in the event planning and organizing activities on the front end and provide activities to attendees during the events.

This position will mainly be based in Juneau, AK and the surrounding area. There may be some travel to nearby villages in Southeast Alaska.

Responsibilities

* Support the SHI education team in event development and planning through the use of word processing and spreadsheet building
* Assist in summer camp set up and tear down
* Assist the Education team in leading cultural activities during events for children of various ages
* Support student evaluations from camp experience

Qualifications

* Basic computer skills (Word, Excel)
* Ability to navigate online forms
* Sealaska shareholder, descendant of a shareholder, or spouse of a shareholder
* At least 18 years of age by start date
* At least a 2.5 GPA
* Must be currently enrolled in college or a vocational-technical school or a recent graduate (1-2 years) and have completed one year of school by the start date
* Legally authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:

* Self-starter
* Flexible with change and adjusting schedules
* Preferred major in Education or Linguistics

Additional Requirements:

* You may be asked to provide proof of your status as a Sealaska shareholder, shareholder descendant, or shareholder spouse
* You must successfully complete a background check prior to onboarding at Sealaska

Applicants must be a current Sealaska shareholder or a Sealaska shareholder descendent.
