Scholastic Book Fairs, in partnership with schools around the country, hosts more than 127,000 block-sale events each year, reaching over 2 million teachers, and more than 35 million children and their families in pre-school through 9th grade. Book Fairs provide students, teachers and parents' access to thousands of affordable books and educational products and is responsible for putting more than 100 million books in the hands of children, helping to foster enthusiasm for reading and generating more than $90 million annually in books and resources for schools.

Scholastic Book Fairs is looking for a Product Category Intern to join us this summer.


The Summer Internship Program will give students an opportunity to gain experience in a variety of Scholastic businesses. As an Intern you will learn from the best minds in the industry and contribute to the success of an industry leader. This is a unique opportunity to work with a dynamic group within an organization dedicated to the education of children. Responsibilities will include:

Provide project and assortment planning/ buying support to the Product department. Key areas of focus include sales and trend analysis, assortment planning, assortment presentation, title management, product project assistance, and assortment buying process assistance.

* Responsible for assisting in the assortment buying process, including database item set-up and item quote processing for orders.
* Research trends and sales and partner with Assortment Planner to plan, purchase, and execute a new season assortment of product.
* Partner closely with Planning and vendors to manage the regional buying process of a category.
* Communicate with vendors to obtain item cost quotes for processing purchase orders.
* Work with assortment schematics and physical product samples to create planograms for merchandising.
* Assist in various product department projects and assortment buying processes.

General Information:

Open to currently enrolled College Students, this internship is designed to offer undergraduate or recent graduates an opportunity to gain hands on experience during the summer.

* The program will run up to 12 weeks beginning Monday, May 20, 2019 through Friday, August 9, 2019
* Paid $12.00 per hour and work a 35 hours per week


* Current college enrollment or recent graduate.
* Demonstrate ability to manage time and multiple commitments / projects simultaneously.
* Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint).
* Ability to analyze number data and market trends as they relate to building product assortments.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills that apply to multiple organizational levels.
* Ability to be flexible, adapt to change and work in a fast pace environment.
* A team player with solid interpersonal skills.
* Flexibility with hours worked.


* Qualified candidates should be a College Student at an accredited College or University
* All students must be in good academic standing and have strong computer skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Be able to work 35 hours per week
