DEPARTMENT: Sales

JOB TITLE: Sales Representative

REPORTS TO: Director of Sales

JOB PURPOSE: Manage the overall sales and marketing effort for Company within an assigned territory. This dynamic individual utilizes indirect and direct face-to-face contact and consultative sales approach to ensure satisfaction of customer needs and confidence in Schaeffer Industries' overall capabilities and growth strategies.

This goal oriented individual uses every customer contact to identify selling opportunities, selects those that are most desirable, and assertively acts upon those that offer maximum potential and/or profit. They must develop new accounts and maintain strong working relationships with established loyal clients. In addition, this individual is responsible for developing annual forecasts and implementing plans and strategies to achieve revenue and volume targets. The individual will partner with an ISR to assure high-quality service.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Make sales contacts, research customer needs and develop application of products and services in an effective manner
  • Contribute to market strategies & goals for each product
  • Obtain & coordinate data & information from staff & member groups
  • Research & develop lists of potential customers
  • Conduct market research to determine customer needs & providing information to other staff
  • identify revenue opportunities with new customers and also within existing customers through communications, programs and other activities as needed
  • Evaluate product marketability in terms of customers' technical & manufacturing needs
  • following up on sales leads and making cold calls on potential customers
  • Maintain up-to-date understanding of industry trends and technical developments that affect target markets
  • Establish & maintain industry contacts that lead to sales
  • Work with Division operations & Inside Sales staff to establish a communication path with the customer

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and report market and competitor activities;
  • Create, maintain, and distribute customer order status reports;
  • Create, update, and maintain year-end purchasing trends to assist in forecasting;
  • Organize and maintain both electronic and manual files;
  • Prospect, qualify and generate sales within the company's established trading partners;
  • Ensure customer identification, planning, account qualification and needs analysis at all prospect levels;
  • Respond to requests from customers for information and gives presentations, as needed;
    engages in technical discussions with potential clients through demonstrations and presentations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience, Competencies and Education

  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Business, Business Management, Sales, Engineering, or related field; or 3 years and a Master's degree in Business, Business Management, Sales, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience;
  • Previous experience working in Steel Production / Manufacturing / Agriculture Sales;
  • Previous experience working in Technical Sales / Sales;
  • Advanced knowledge of accessing and using the Internet and MS Office tools;
  • Advanced knowledge of computer systems, communication tools and software such as Windows programs;
  • Excellent communication skills are required, both written and oral.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and/or interpret common to moderately complex scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents;
  • Ability to respond to common and more complex inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community;
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, various departments, employees of all levels, and/or boards of directors.

A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. This job is the fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position.

JOB COMPLEXITY

Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.

SUPERVISION

Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.
