Job Description

SCANA Corporation is an energy-based holding company whose businesses include regulated electric and natural gas utility operations and other energy-related businesses. SCANA's subsidiaries serve electric customers in South Carolina and natural gas customers in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. A full-time or part-time Engineering Specialist Co-Op position in Asheville, North Carolina is available for the Spring semester of 2019. The Engineering Department is responsible for pipeline design, developing procedures and standards, mapping of facilities, maintaining compliance with federal and state pipeline safety regulations, and other tasks as necessary to maintain the safe, efficient, and reliable operations, maintenance and expansion of the transmission and distribution natural gas pipeline systems.


The Engineer Specialist Co-Op will learn about natural gas utility engineering by spending time working with all areas of the Engineering Department including: Project Engineering, System Planning, and GIS Services. This position will assist Engineers, Engineering & GIS Specialists and Management with various job duties to meet current and future company initiatives and regulatory requirements. Job duties may include but are not limited to: creating CADD and/or GIS drawings of proposed pipelines and stations, researching information for system upgrades, permitting new natural gas mains, writing procedures, creating and populating spreadsheets and databases, performing cost estimates for construction projects, and utilizing GIS to map gas facilities. Additional job functions may include but are not limited to: supporting and communicating with PSNC's Marketing Department, pipeline integrity management program support, and field preview and/or verification of construction installations.


Candidates must be in the process of obtaining an Associate degree in Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (preferably in Civil Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Associate in Engineering, or Mechanical Drafting Technology). Candidates must also have a valid driver's license and a reliable means of transportation.

Other Information

Must also be willing to live within a reasonable commuting distance of the Asheville area and capable of overnight travels.
