We are seeking talented individuals to join the Space and Flight Systems department\. You will work on assignments that involve software and system R&D rooted in engineering and scientific basis, code maintenance, collaborating with other developers, internal domain experts, and mission experts\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Work significantly with software on satellite ground and flight systems
+ Be self\-motivated, work well independently and within a large team environment
+ Collaborate and focus on conceptualizing and influencing future subsystem needs and direction
+ Improve and document application improvement and algorithm/software functionality
+ Be on\-call to support test and deployment activities
+ Use languages such as C/C\+\+, Perl, Ada, and others in a configuration controlled development environment

You will receive an appropriate level of training and mentoring to function effectively in these positions\. Technical leadership opportunities exist in growth areas as well as opportunities to interact directly with customers and users of the software subsystem\. The work environment is primarily desktop computing and development with potential work in light electrical labs and hardware testing environments\. Some travel is required\.

Required:

+ You have a BS and MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering; or BS in a relevant field plus 4 years of relevant experience
+ Your background includes software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices and tools
+ You bring experience in research and development scientific/engineering application software development
+ Your skillset includes experience with object\-oriented software development \(C\+\+/Java\) and UNIX/Linux environments, including knowledge of design patterns and clean coding practices
+ You can obtain the necessary DOE security clearance needed for this role, which may require a polygraph examination

Desired:

Your background should also include:

+ A strong analytical background, either through work experience or formal education
+ Experience with relevant application and mission domains \(national security, remote sensing systems, satellite systems, satellite ground systems, optical systems, command and control systems, remote asset communications and telemetry\)
+ Experience with large, complex scientific and technical application development in a configuration controlled environment
+ Proven ability working on multi\-disciplinary development teams
+ Knowledge of and/or experience with space system TCPED processes; and telemetry data formats such as CCSDS
+ Experience with and/or knowledge of complex algorithm development \(including optimization techniques\) and complex data structures
+ Experience with distributed computing communication protocols, such as CORBA, DDS, and sockets
+ Experienced in working in a secure production environment
+ Experience in software design, software architecture, and software refactoring
+ Experience with graphical user interface \(GUI\) development informed by human\-computer interface \(HCI\) design issues, as well as with work\-flow analysis
+ Experience with information assurance policies and practices
+ Familiar with Rhapsody and software configuration management tools
+ Excellent teaming and interpersonal skills
+ Active DOE/DOD security clearance

Department Description:

We, the Space and Flight Systems department, provide hardware and software development for embedded satellite systems, embedded flight systems, and embedded ground systems\. These systems range from localized controller applications to high\-end node based computers serving as the heart of a satellite payload\. Due to the high cost of payload launch, the design focus is on ultra\-reliability, small size, and real\-time response\. The group consists of staff from the disciplines of electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, and electronics technology\. These highly skilled staff members bring a quality emphasis to the creation of robust reliable embedded system designs\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a SCI security clearance\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.
