Job Description

We \(departments: 5812, 5813, 5814\*\) are seeking Electrical, Aerospace, Mechanical, Nuclear and Systems Engineers to perform all\-source technical analysis of the evolving nuclear weapon threats against the United States\. In this role, you will interact with the national security community to develop a 360\-degree awareness of foreign state and non\-state technical capabilities related to nuclear weapons and develop technical and engineering assessments, utilizing the broad technology base within Sandia\. Key technology focus areas include: weaponization, hardware development and assessment, modeling and simulation, and testing\.

On any given day, you may:

+ Collaborate with colleagues to understand and define work
+ Brainstorm with technical team members new ideas for system advancement
+ Build new multi\-disciplinary teams from across Sandia to address specific or urgent needs
+ Serve as a single technical/programmatic interface for multiple levels of customers from various government organizations
+ Document customer expectations, define performance requirements, and work with the technical team to assure all expectations and requirements are met

\* placement within department 5812, 5813 or 5814 will be determined at the time an offer is extended

Required:

+ You have an advanced degree \(Masters or PhD\) in aerospace, electrical, mechanical, nuclear, or systems engineering, physics or other related technical discipline; plus, an undergraduate degree in a related STEM discipline
+ Your background includes two or more years related experience
+ You possess an existing DOE Q security clearance or Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance, ability to obtain/maintain a SCI clearance, and willingness to take a polygraph exam, if requested

Desired:

Ideally, your background would also include:

+ Existing DOE SCI security clearance
+ Demonstrated strong writing and verbal skills \(writing samples may be requested\)
+ Experience related to nuclear weapon and/or delivery system development, or related technology development
+ Experience conducting hardware testing, including environmental testing and qualification
+ Experience using modeling and simulation tools in performing engineering and scientific assessments
+ Experience in characterizing material responses in extreme thermal and mechanical environments
+ Experience simulating material responses using numerical analysis

The primary mission of Departments 5812, 5813 and 5814 is to assess the threats posed to US national security by foreign advanced weapons capabilities, especially nuclear weapons\. Our analyses inform policy\-makers across the US government responsible for understanding the threats and risks posed by these weapons\. Security Clearance:

Position requires a SCI security clearance\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance, which requires U\.S\. citizenship and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.
