We are seeking a Controls Engineer to develop, implement, and test controls algorithms to solve challenging pointing and flight controls problems\. You will primarily work on the development and fielding of control systems for both surveillance and reconnaissance and strike applications\. You will develop control solutions for multiple real\-time systems integrated into Synthetic Aperture Radar products, and will participate in solving emerging challenges, including the problem of autopilot controls for advanced flight vehicles\. The engineer will work with senior algorithm developers to meet customer needs in a collaborative environment\.


+ You have an advanced degree \(Masters or PhD\) in electrical engineering, controls engineering, aeronautical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science or equivalent training \(Bachelors plus 4 years’ experience\)
+ You possess a strong analytical background, either through work experience or formal education
+ Your background includes experience with one or more of the following relevant application and mission domains: control theory, estimation, navigation, dynamics, optimization, Kalman filtering or signal processing theory
+ You can obtain a required US DOE Q clearance


Ideally, your background will also include working knowledge/experience with:

+ Control theory, including classical and modern controls, non\-linear controls, and the application of those areas towards gimbaled pointing and/or aerial systems
+ Optimal estimation algorithms, such as Extended Kalman Filters, as applied to motion estimation or navigation
+ Object\-oriented software development \(C\+\+/Java/Python\)
+ Real\-time embedded systems development
+ Matlab
+ Experience analyzing data off detection/sensor systems
+ Excellent teaming and communication skills

Department Description:

The department includes personnel with expertise in controls, navigation, guidance, estimation, Kalman filters, inertial devices, and many others\. Some of the work areas include: Synthetic Aperture Radar aerial vehicle motion measurement and pointing controls, space systems high accuracy sensor pointing controls, hypersonic vehicle GNC algorithm development, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle GNC algorithm development, GPS\-denied navigation, missile flight trajectory and attitude reconstruction, and HWIL/SWIL simulators\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
