The Heterogeneous Integration & RF Microsystems organization is looking for an inspiring individual to lead and own the RF & Optoelectronic Microsystems Department, 5211\. You will also be working with other managers across the laboratory on programs to research, design, and develop advanced RF and optical microsystems that are highly reliable for Sandia missions\.

You will be a part of a multi\-disciplinary team, thriving in a fast\-paced technical environment that is highly customer\-focused\. A key attribute for success is to develop and maintain close teaming, high functioning relationships with colleagues within RF & Electronic Systems at Sandia including the National Center for RF Systems \(NCRFS\) and many other key partner organizations\. Some travel will be required\.

Your daily duties and development activities include:

+ Lead members of the workforce within the department\. Coordinate subordinate employee recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, recognition and disciplinary actions\.
+ You will work closely with the staff to ensure project alignment with current customer needs\.
+ Ensure that customer needs are satisfied by handling and coordinating specific work you're doing on overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements\.
+ Balance the acquisition and development of staff resources, capabilities, and existing and future projects or programs\.
+ Handle work that is rooted in the fundamentals of RF, microwave, opto\-electronic engineering which requires a deep understanding of microwave/high\-speed systems\.
+ Lead the creation and application of scientific and engineering methods used in advanced research and development to demonstrate new designs, concepts, or microsystems\.
+ Oversee physical and circuit simulation, analysis, and evaluation as inherent activities of RF integrated circuits design and development\.
+ Lead Sandia's scientific programs from fundamental research and will also work to develop next generation of RFIC, RF microsystems, and optical devices for national security\.
+ Actively seek out new RF and Optoelectronic \- R&D opportunities which will further enhance staff development and department competency\.

Required:

+ You have a Master’s degree or PHD degree in Electrical, or closely related RF/microwave engineering discipline; Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree\.
+ Your background should have significant work experience in a R&D environment\.
+ Your skillset includes leadership experience\.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance; with the possibility of a required SCI clearance which may require a polygraph\.

+ You have knowledge of RF, RFIC, microwave and high\-speed opto\-electronics\.
+ Your skillset demonstrates the ability to drive innovation in product development\.
+ You have well\-developed interpersonal and communications skills\.

+ Demonstrated ability to acquire new R&D opportunities\.
+ Demonstrated ability to develop products within the Nuclear Weapon Realize Product Subsystem\.
+ Familiarity with NW systems and subsystems\.
+ Demonstrated ability to form trust\-based relationships with partners and customers within and outside the laboratories\.
+ Current DOE Q\-level security clearance\.
+ Current DOE SCI\-level security clearance\.

Department Description:

The RF & Optoelectronic Microsystems department performs research, design, modeling, characterization, and qualification of RF and Optical Microsystems as well as specialty sensors\. The organization is responsible for the development of RF microsystems based on MESA radiation\-hardened technologies as well as state\-of\-the\-art external foundries with work in CMOS, BiCMOS, and compound semiconductor\. Research and development activities include RFIC, advanced RF sensors, and communication devices for national security applications\. Program scope includes prototype hardware up through fully qualified production\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
