Job Description


We are seeking an Intern Year Round \- Clerical Union Undergrad

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Perform secretarial and clerical work for the organization managers and staff
+ Prepare a variety of documents, including correspondence, reports, vugraphs, charts, etc\.
+ Originate routine correspondence, edit and format documents, and assist in processing paperwork in accordance with SNL policies and procedures
+ Set up file systems for all documents and maintain all programmatic and administrative records and files
+ Follow all procedures for the filing and maintenance of classified or sensitive documents and records
+ Set up databases, enter and maintain data and respond to requests for information
+ Make domestic and foreign travel arrangements for the manager and staff
+ Coordinate and schedule all meetings
+ Prepare and distribute meeting minutes
+ Handle telephone communications and receive visitors
+ Ascertain nature of calls or visits
+ Take messages or schedule appointments
+ Respond to routine questions or refer individuals to appropriate sources of information
+ Serve as an information resource to the manager and staff
+ Maintain manager's calendar as requested


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 2\.5/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U\.S\. citizenship

As a condition of employment, the selected candidate will be represented by the Office and Professional Employees International Union \(OPEIU\), which requires monthly membership dues or agency fees\. New hires into an OPEIU represented position will remain in the initial position for twelve \(12\) months before being eligible to be considered for other Sandia employment\.

Department Description:

The Strategic Firing Subsystems Department 2625 designs and develops nuclear weapon firing subsystems, terminal protection devices, and digital/analog controllers for other DOE and DoD applications\. Department activities include new technology development to advance our capabilities in future systems, design and development of nuclear weapon firing subsystems and terminal protection devices, and support of these components in the enduring stockpile\. Program responsibilities support our US Navy Strategic Reentry Systems including development of the W88ALT 370 Firing Subsystem and production support for the W76\-1 Firing Set partnering with the Kansas City Plant Production Agency and Sandia External Production\. Department 2625 also has responsibility for the Terminal Protection Device in the W76\-1, W88\-0, W88ALT 370, and the Mk21 / Mk12A Air Force ICBM Fuze Program, providing EMR filtering to protect from system generated EMP\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.

Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U\.S\. Air Force background screen for access to the work site\. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, rendering the inability to perform the duties assigned and resulting in termination of employment\.
