We are seeking a University Summer Faculty to join our diverse team supporting the research and development of autonomous sensing and flight systems\.

You will conceptualize, design, implement, and test novel algorithms for both single and multi\-platform autonomous systems\. You will also research and develop multi\-disciplinary algorithms that enable Sandia’s advanced flight systems to autonomously navigate, guide, and control themselves\. Within a Sense\-Think\-Act paradigm, you will work with leading authorities in sensors, signal processing, perception, machine intelligence, optimization, and control systems within the Group, throughout Sandia’s diverse organizations, and with partners from the US Department of Defense and private industry\. You will perform as an expert in advanced control systems; and broaden on your competency in sensor systems \(e\.g\. radar/lidar, RF, infrared, optical, inertial, etc\), servo\-actuators, autonomous algorithm development, and flight software programming for embedded systems\.

Required:

+ You have a Ph\.D\. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering
+ Your background includes optimization and nonlinear control system design
+ You have experience in use of computer\-aided analysis and design tools such as MATLAB/Simulink
+ Your skillset includes experience developing nonlinear dynamics models, including constrained systems
+ You possess a currently active DOE or DOD security clearance

Ideally, your background would also include:

+ Proven verbal and written communication/presentation skills
+ Ability to collaborate and contribute as a member of multi\-disciplinary team
+ Current and active DOE Q\-level clearance

Department Description:

We provide technology solutions and support to both Offensive and Defensive Military Systems development projects within the Integrated Military Systems Program at Sandia\. Hardware and software technologies are developed, integrated, and tested to provide flight control solutions for missiles and hypersonic reentry platforms\. Typically, these systems support the Missile Defense Agency, Army, Navy, and other DOD Agencies\. Our applications cover a broad spectrum of applications; from advanced aerodynamically controlled vehicles dropped from aircraft, to maneuvering hypersonic warheads, to ballistic missile systems\. All the activities require the extensive use of real time embedded computers and custom real\-time software for the realization of affiliated fully\-integrated flight control system solutions\. The NGC group is significantly involved in modeling and simulation activities in support of these same application areas as well as activities for the Sandia Space Mission Program\. The department strives to provide leadership to the Laboratory and the Nation in the creative development, use, and application of both NGC and mod/sim technologies\. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
