Are you passionate about your work and dream of utilizing state\-of\-the\-art facilities and methods to test the Nation’s current and future Nuclear Stockpile? Do you want to join a dynamic team that solves challenging issues for our nation's security?

We are seeking highly motivated R&D S&E Systems Engineer to become part of the Air Delivered Weapons surveillance team\. We are responsible for the development, execution and analysis of system tests of national importance \-\- partnering with other Sandia organizations to design innovative and creative surveillance approaches for our high\-priority system\-level tests, develop and execute testing on multimillion dollar instrumented laboratory and flight test units, and provide design agency engineering support for production\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Lead technical efforts related to systems\-level testing of the nuclear stockpile\.
+ Direct work that is rooted in the fundamentals of science and engineering while applying a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles\.
+ Conduct testing and analysis of stockpile weapons systems/component performance\.
+ Collaborate with Important external interfaces including our National Nuclear Security Administration customers, DoD customers, Los Alamos National Laboratory, DoD contractors, Kansas City National Security Campus, and Pantex production plants\.

Moderate travel will be required to fulfill the duties of this position\.

Required:

+ Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with five years relavant experience; or a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 2 years relavant experience\.
+ Active US DOE Q security clearance

Desired:

+ Two or more years' science or engineering experience in relevant government or industry programs delivering large complex systems \- contributions in domains such as modeling and simulation, design and realization of product and/or components, or product testing and evaluation;
+ Demonstrated problem\-solving skills to develop creative technical solutions;
+ Eagerness to work in a multi\-disciplinary team environment;
+ Demonstrated communication and teaming skills;
+ Ability to bring diverse technical perspectives, experience, and interests to the group

Department Description:

The primary objective of our organization is to assure the US nuclear weapon stockpile remains safe, secure, reliable and of the highest performance as the underlying basis of the US nuclear deterrent capability\. We provide engineering support for the life\-cycle of the weapons, including surveillance, special studies, testing and analysis\. Additionally, we provide support to ongoing development programs as they arise and lead investigations of testing anomalies\.

We provide the technical and programmatic leadership for the collection of test data for air\-delivered nuclear weapons\. Department members plan and execute the system\-level laboratory and flight testing programs for stockpile air delivered weapon systems \(B61\-3/4/7/11, B83\-1 and W80\-1\)\. This requires a thorough understanding of the technical performance of the weapon so that we can analyze and report the data critical to the assessment of the nuclear stockpile\. We are developing an innovative and cost effective surveillance program for the B61\-12 and W80\-4 by implementing a systems engineering approach to identify key assessment attributes during the design and development phases of those modernization programs\.
