Job Description


We are seeking a Electrical Trades

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ A strong background in installation, modification, repair and testing of electrical/electronic Fire Alarm systems\.
+ A good familiarity with Sandia's current Fire Alarm/Reporting system would be a plus\.
+ Specific maintenance skills in the performance of Preventive Maintenance \(PM\) and Corrective Maintenance \(CM\)\.
+ Must have strong trouble\-shooting skills, and be able/available to work overtime on an as needed basis\.
+ Knowledge of Facilities Lightning Protection systems, infrared thermography, underground and interior electrical utility spotting/locating methods, and the ability to perform PM and CM on building overhead bridge cranes\.
+ As a condition of employment, Metal Trades positions are represented by the Metal Trades Council \(MTC\) and represented employees must pay the monthly membership dues or agency fee\.


+ Perform required periodic testing of systems and utilize a computerized database to maintain required records\.
+ Perform work using industry standard safety practices such as: proper use and inspection of Personal Protective Equipment \(PPE\) and test equipment for confirmation of the de\-energization of electrical circuits including but not limited to insulation resistance tester, digital multi\-meter, and circuit tracers\.
+ Devise tests, fabricate assemblies, or troubleshoot as necessary\.
+ Utilize a computerized database to maintain records, and keep work areas in a clean and orderly condition\.
+ May consult with other Tradespersons and provide direction to other employees as required\.
+ Lay out, install, modify, troubleshoot, repair and maintain medium and high voltage electrical systems\.
+ Diagnose and correct malfunctions in complex electrical transmission and distribution systems and detect and mark all types of interior and exterior electrical utilities\.
+ Work involves bucket truck and digger\-derrick pole truck operation\.
+ Perform switching procedures and techniques; conduct high voltage testing procedures; and use cable splicing and HV termination techniques\.
+ Perform work using industry\-standard safety practices, techniques, and sequences for determining the de\-energization of high voltage circuits; installation and removal of grounding clusters; demonstrate knowledge of test equipment to troubleshoot high voltage electrical circuits; work with facilities/construction engineers to evaluate, plan, and coordinate utility spotting activities\. Must have experience in the construction of HV equipment/systems and an understanding of the associated hazards involved\.
+ Must have working knowledge of SNL's high voltage electrical transmission and distribution systems and complete SNL's High Voltage Mentorship Program\.
+ Must be able to obtain the mobile crane certification\.
+ Lay out, install, modify, troubleshoot, repair and maintain specialized facilities, electrical fire alarm systems, intrusion alarm systems, inverters, emergency lights, overhead doors, vehicle gates and building grounding and distribution systems including transfer switches and standby/emergency generator systems\.
+ Troubleshoot and repair communication systems, control and alarm systems, and associated computer equipment interfaces\.
+ Responsibilities include thermographic scanning, diagnosing and correcting malfunctions in highly specialized electrical and electronic test equipment, and electromechanical circuits and devices associated with facility and process equipment and test equipment including infrared thermography, communications transmission system test equipment, and three\-point ground resistivity meters\.
+ Work on complex electrical, electronic and electromechanical systems, circuits, and devices associated with facility and process equipment\.
+ Diagnose and correct malfunctions in electrical systems, circuits, and components\.
+ Must have working knowledge of SNL's Low Voltage Electrical Distribution systems\.
+ Will perform appropriate, auxiliary, or related duties in the general area of work activity necessary to accomplish the above\.
+ Required skills, Physical Assessments, & Certifications:Once the applicant has submitted their application and resume, there will be several levels of screening as applicable:Resume review for direct experience and related work history;Skills assessmentsInterview evaluations;Pre\-employment background reviews \(for external applicants\);Drug testing; andPhysical job placement assessments\. Each screening level must be passed successfully and consecutively in order to be eligible for consideration\.A job placement assessment \(JPA\) will be required as part of the screening for this position\.This JPA will evaluate your ability to meet the physical requirements of this job\.


+ Requirements include completion of a 4\-year State approved electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent\.
+ Typical experience includes minimum of 3\-5 years as a fully qualified Electrical Tradesperson, and is capable of obtaining a journeyman's license\.
+ The successful candidate must be able to work either independently, or as a member of a team\. Leadership skills, and good communication skills \(written and verbal\) would be a plus\.
+ Punctuality, and a solid attendance record\.
+ Knowledge of how a Behavior Based Safety system functions works to help reduce injuries and provide a safer workplace\.
+ Active Department of Energy "L" or "Q" clearance\.

Electrical Preventive, Predictive, Corrective Maintenance, and Mechanical Fire Suppression Department\. This includes High Voltage, Fire Alarm Detection and Reporting Systems, Street Lighting, Power Metering, Low Voltage Building Preventive Maintenance, Emergency Lighting/Inverters, Intrusion Alarm System support, Electrically operated roll\-up doors, gates and Standby Generators\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
