The Facilities Project Manager has responsibility for successfully delivering multiple customer projects at all stages from concept through completion\. Leads project teams of internal or external engineering and architectural personnel, construction contractors, customers, sponsors, and suppliers, to ensure that the project meets scope, schedule, and cost requirements per DOE Orders and Sandia’s requirements\. Using their experience as engineers, architects, or relevant technical knowledge the PM actively participates in making technical contributions to the project through capturing and developing the customer’s technical requirements, properly communicating the design solutions to those requirements, and providing design assurance and constructability reviews\. Works closely with project team to ensure that the project progresses as planned and identifies and addresses both technical and non\-technical risks, opportunities, and other issues that impact the project during the project execution phase\.

Primary Job Duties:

Integration with customers and suppliers both internally and externally to successfully complete projects\. Responsible for leading the project using project management skills including project plan development and execution, project monitoring and control, and change control for large, complex, and high\-rigor projects\. Uses engineering, architectural, and other relevant technical expertise to manage processes to ensure that all requirements are identified, negotiated, and verified with the customer while technically contributing to the requirements analysis\. Works with various Sandia organizations including security, safety, and environmental to ensure tasks are properly planned and executed to overarching requirements\. Manages task definition and sequencing, duration estimation, and schedule development and control to ensure that the project is completed on schedule\. Uses Earned Value Management to properly analyze project performance\. Works with Sandia procurement and suppliers to ensure that goods and services of the proper quality are obtained\. Ensures that the project is completed within budget constraints using cost estimation, budget determination, and cost control and effectively addresses budget concerns with the appropriate funding source\. Responsible for developing risk mitigation strategies and implementing in accordance with corporate policies and practices\. Develops and delivers proposals, requirements documentation, progress reports, and presentations for all levels of stakeholders, both internal and external to Sandia\.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

+ Knowledge of and experience with standard project management practices including project plan development and control, scope management, project scheduling, cost estimation and management, quality assurance, project staffing, communications planning and management, risk and opportunity management, and procurement management\.
+ Knowledge and background in one or more engineering disciplines, such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, architecture or related technical field\.
+ Knowledge of Building Codes\.
+ Ability to make decisions requiring engineering judgment across more than one discipline\.
+ Leadership skills, including the ability to develop and articulate a strategic plan and successfully implement it to deliver desired results\.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills\.
+ Ability to effectively communicate across science and engineering disciplines\.
+ Ability to interface with management at all levels\.
+ Proficiency in tools and applications commonly employed in project management activities\.
+ Teaming skills, including the ability to work effectively with other organizations, project sponsors and customers, and suppliers\.
+ Organizational skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high\-pressure environment\.


Bachelors Degree in associated field\.

Experience managing facilities type projects\.

Experience performing architecture or engineering design on building systems\.

Understanding of facilities management processes such as operations, maintenance, document and project management\.

Proven effective leadership skills and have demonstrated the ability to forge alliances among diverse groups in a dynamic environment\.

Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve problems with high level of detail\.

Ability to implement system processes utilizing latest technical approaches, handle frequent changing priorities, and coordinate multiple activities

Strong communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of staff and management\.

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Must be able to obtain and maintain a U\.S\. Department of Energy security clearance


Pursuit / completion of an advanced technical degree in architecture, engineering or a related field\.

Certification as a Professional Engineer \(PE\), Leader in Energy and Environmental Design \(LEED\), Certified Energy Manager \(CEM\), and / or Project Management Professional \(PMP\)\.

Demonstrated advanced computer technical skills including experience with a computerized scheduling system and AutoCAD¿\.

Department Description:

The Project and Construction Management Department is responsible for managing, executing, and inspecting all construction projects at the CA site\. This includes modification of buildings, space, and infrastructure systems as well as the design and construction of new facilities to satisfy changing programmatic needs\. The team also provides Sandia issued permits, escort support, and environmental & safety guidance through Facilities ES&H \(FESH\)\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
