Job Description

We are seeking an Intern Summer \- R&D Grad

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Develop new navigation, guidance, and control algorithm concepts
+ Develop proof\-of\-principle testbeds \(simulation and experimental\)
+ Analyze simulation/experimental data to assess performance and robustness of novel algorithms
+ Collaborate with internal and external researchers in sensing, machine learning, and embedded systems
+ Communicate research and development results internally and to external customers
+ Program flight software for algorithm evaluation in high\-fidelity simulation testbeds

Required:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Earned bachelor's degree
+ Currently attending and enrolled full time \(or scheduled to graduate in the spring\) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ Earned Bachelor of Science in Computer, Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering
+ Background including measurement acquisition, data processing, or algorithm development for navigation applications
+ Experience in use of computer\-aided analysis and design tools such as MATLAB \(or equivalent analysis/graphics capabilities in Python\)
+ Experience developing software in Python, JAVA, C, CUDA/OpenCL, and/or C\+\+

Department Description:

The Navigation Guidance and Control \(NGC\) Department 5426 provides technology solutions and support to both Offensive and Defensive Military Systems development projects within the Integrated Military Systems Program at Sandia\. Hardware and software technologies are developed, integrated, and tested to provide flight control solutions for missiles and hypersonic reentry platforms\. Typically these systems support the Missile Defense Agency, Army, Navy, and other Department of Defense Agencies\. Our applications cover a broad spectrum of applications; from advanced aerodynamically controlled vehicles dropped from aircraft, to maneuvering hypersonic warheads, to ballistic missile systems\. All of the activities require the extensive use of real time embedded computers and custom real\-time software for the realization of affiliated fully\-integrated flight control system solutions\. The NGC group is significantly involved in modeling and simulation activities in support of these same application areas as well as activities for the Sandia Space Mission Program\. The department strives to provide leadership to the Laboratory and the Nation in the creative development, use, and application of both NGC and mod/sim technologies\. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.
