**Do you want to join a dynamic team that solves challenging issues for nation's security?**

We are seeking a highly motivated Digital Signal Processing \(DSP\) engineer\. Your primary focus will be to implement the software processing in specialized RF communications systems for National Security applications\. You may be required to make occasional travel of within the Continental U\.S\. Projects range from very urgent, quick reaction requests in response to real\-world driven needs to longer term, life\-critical efforts with rigorous development requirements\. You will become a member of a multi\-discipline, success oriented high\-performance team\.

On any given day you may be called on to:

+ Research, develop, analyze and/or field test RF systems
+ RF system conceptualization
+ Requirements development
+ Perform link margin analysis of a RF communication system
+ Write software or firmware to implement the DSP for specific waveforms
+ Utilize GPUs to implement DSP algorithms
+ Setup field tests and analyze data to qualify and improve RF systems
+ Write software to integrate DSP code and implement other system requirements on Linux platforms
+ Implement signal processing algorithms in firmware utilizing FPGAs
+ Develop test/acceptance procedures and document design definition


+ You will have a master’s degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience \(bachelor’s degree plus 4 years\) to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the job
+ Your background includes digital signal processing experience
+ Your skillset includes programming experience in C\+\+ or other similar languages
+ You have experience simulating and analyzing systems in Matlab
+ You can obtain a DOE Q security clearance with SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph


Your background should also include:

+ You bring experience with, or education in, general test and measurement equipment \(oscilloscopes, DVM, logic analyzers\) and RF test equipment \(network analyzer, spectrum analyzer\)
+ Experience working with embedded systems
+ Proficient utilizing the Linux OS, libraries, and tools
+ Experience utilizing GPUs to implement signal processing algorithms
+ RF system design/simulation experience
+ Firmware development experience in FPGAs, CPLDs using VHDL or Verilog
+ Ability to plan, coordinate, and document field tests
+ Experience or familiarity with the following software languages: Python, C/C\+\+, CUDA, and VHDL or equivalent
+ Experience or familiarity with the following tools: GNU Radio and Matlab/Simulink or equivalent
+ Embedded firmware and software familiarity
+ Knowledge of RF, Digital Communications, radar, and/or EW systems and principles
+ Ability to work effectively on both small and large development teams \(two\-to\-eight members\)
+ Good communication and documentation skills
+ Be motivated by working with a highly successful, dynamic project team delivering systems that impact our National Security
+ Active DOE Q clearance
+ Active SCI clearance

Department Description:

The RF & Systems Electronics Center \(Center 5300\) provides key electronics systems work to a wide variety of nuclear weapons, space, intelligence and military programs across Sandia and the Nation\. The Advanced RF Systems group \(5330\) supports the Nation’s technology superiority strategies by delivering capabilities for RF & spectral dominance, global highly\-reliable communications, and novel advancements for future strength\. We are a highly dynamic set of departments that cross\-team to provide integrated engineering systems solutions ranging from core research through prototype development and high\-end, fielded products\.

The Advanced Special Communications Systems department \(5335\) strives to Develop terrestrial, airborne, and space based special communications systems for use in surveillance and reconnaissance, Tagging Tracking and Locating \(TTL\), and the relay/detection/characterization of RF signals present in challenging environments\. Our customers include a variety of government organizations including the Intelligence Community and those conducting special operations missions\. Our staff members have a diverse skills base including microwave circuit design, antenna design, signal analysis, digital signal processing, embedded software, and digital FPGA designs\. Applications include long and short\-range communications and transponder systems, typically utilizing ultra\-low power signaling techniques\. Our design challenges include highly miniaturized electronics, low\-power maximally efficient transceivers, signal extraction in very low signal\-to\-noise environments, and signal analysis of RF and communication systems\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a SCI security clearance\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.
