Job Description


The Concentrating Solar Technologies department is seeking a motivated, high performing, and dedicated Mechanical Technologist to join a team of highly creative and innovative multi\-disciplinary professionals, scientists, and engineers\. You will perform rewarding work that is engaging and high profile\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Develops, builds, modifies, repairs, maintains, aligns, evaluates, operates, and experiments with a wide variety of mechanical apparatus and equipment;
+ Drafts detailed drawings for fabrication;
+ Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies;
+ Sets up and tests complete prototype units and subassemblies under operational conditions;
+ Analyzes date and recommends modifications to components or test procedure to meet desired specifications\.

+ High School diploma or equivalent;
+ Skill and knowledge in mechanics or related technologies, such as electronics, computer\-aided design and manufacturing software, or instrumentation;
+ Knowledge and experience with installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining equipment or systems;
+ Ability to read and understand written or verbal instructions, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications;
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L\-level security clearance\.


+ Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting systems and equipment;
+ Skill preparing and presenting systems and equipment reports;
+ Knowledge of Sandia National Laboratories’ policies, practices, and procedures;
+ Knowledge of legal requirements and environmental impacts affecting equipment and systems maintenance and engineering;
+ Ability to interpret and apply knowledge and practical understanding of equipment and systems theory and principles;
+ Ability to work independently and as well as part of a team\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.
