:

This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years\. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment\.

Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance\.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to join the Nanostructure Physics Department\. Are you passionate about the design, synthesis, and mechanical testing of novel 3\-dimensional lattice metamaterials, also known as architected materials, microtrusses, honeycombs, or acoustic metamaterials? Do you dream of collaborating with a multidisciplinary team integrating experts from across Sandia, including Engineering Sciences; Materials, Chemical, and Physical Sciences; and Computing Research Divisions? If so, you will want to consider applying for this role, which provides the opportunity to work as part of a dynamic team conducting research in state\-of\-the\-art facilities\.

On any given day, you may:

+ Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams with authorities in metal, ceramic, and polymer additive manufacturing; in\-situ electron microscopy; high\-performance parallel computing; and mechanical testing
+ Work on ground breaking research that is expected to lead to both patents and publications
+ Work with novel intellectual property that is unique to Sandia National Labs
+ Engage with the scientific community by publishing results and attending conferences

Required:

+ PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in physics, chemistry, materials science, or related discipline
+ A record of impactful scientific achievement as evidenced by a history of publications in peer\-reviewed journals and external presentations at appropriate scientific conferences
+ Experimental experience in materials mechanics or structural mechanics
+ Experience with data acquisition and control hardware and software
+ Experience with solid modelling \(e\.g\. Solidworks, Pro\-E, etc\.\)
+ Experience using analytic or computational modelling to interpret data and experimental results

Desired:

+ Experience with Matlab for data processing
+ Experience with additive manufacturing
+ Experience with finite element analysis
+ Experience with digital image correlation
+ Experience with structural dynamics and material testing
+ Experience with microstructural analysis

Department Description:

The Nanostructure Physics department \(01881\) is one of two departments at Sandia that are a part of the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies \(CINT\)\. CINT is a Department of Energy/Office of Science Nanoscale Science Research Center operating as a national user facility dedicated to establishing the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials\. Through its core facility in Albuquerque and gateway facility at Los Alamos, CINT provides users from academia, industry, and government labs, open access to the tools and expertise needed to explore the continuum from scientific discovery to the integration of nanostructures into the micro\- and macro world\. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
