Job Description

:

**Do you want to join a dynamic team that solves challenging issues for our nation's security?**

We are seeking a highly motivated electronics technologist\. Your primary focus will be to support the development of specialized RF communications systems for National Security applications\. You may be required to make occasional travel within the Continental U\.S\. for field tests\. Projects range from very urgent, quick reaction requests in response to real\-world driven needs to longer term, life\-critical efforts with rigorous development requirements\. You will become a member of a multi\-discipline, success oriented high\-performance team\.

On any given day you may be called on to:

+ Assemble and test RF electrical assemblies
+ Troubleshoot custom electronics circuits
+ Conduct field testing of electronics including test planning, coordination, and execution
+ Coordinate with production partners on test specs, processes, and non\-conforming product
+ Procure, evaluate, and organize parts
+ Fabricate cables and circuit boards
+ Document build processes and test results

Required:

+ You will have a technical associate’s degree; 4 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the degree
+ Your background includes experience with general electronic test equipment including power supplies, multi\-meters, and oscilloscopes
+ Your skillset includes experience assembling, testing, and troubleshooting electronic circuitry
+ You have an active DOE Q security clearance \(or DoD\-TS equivalent\)

Desired:

Your background should also include:

+ Bachelors of Science degree in a relevant field
+ You bring experience with, or education in, general test and measurement equipment \(oscilloscopes, DVM, logic analyzers\) and RF test equipment \(network analyzer, spectrum analyzer\)
+ Experience with automated instrument control
+ LabVIEW or MATLAB programming experience
+ High level programming language experience
+ Field test experience and support
+ Ability to plan, coordinate, and document testing, including field tests
+ Experience with PWB assembly, soldering, and inspection
+ IPC\-610 Solder and Inspection Certification
+ Experience with potting materials and vacuum chamber processes
+ Understanding of wireless communication electronics and related systems
+ Experience performing antenna measurements
+ Experience laying out and assembling electronic chassis/enclosures
+ Effective communication and documentation skills
+ Be motivated by working with a highly successful, dynamic project team delivering systems that impact our National Security

Department Description:

The RF & Systems Electronics Center \(Center 5300\) provides key electronics systems work to a wide variety of nuclear weapons, space, intelligence and military programs across Sandia and the Nation\. The Advanced RF Systems group \(5330\) supports the Nation’s technology superiority strategies by delivering capabilities for RF & spectral dominance, global highly\-reliable communications, and novel advancements for future strength\. We are a highly dynamic set of departments that cross\-team to provide integrated engineering systems solutions ranging from core research through prototype development and high\-end, fielded products\.

The Advanced Special Communications Systems department \(5335\) strives to Develop terrestrial, airborne, and space based special communications systems for use in surveillance and reconnaissance, Tagging Tracking and Locating \(TTL\), and the relay/detection/characterization of RF signals present in challenging environments\. Our customers include a variety of government organizations including the Intelligence Community and those conducting special operations missions\. Our staff members have a diverse skills base including microwave circuit design, antenna design, signal analysis, digital signal processing, embedded software, and digital FPGA designs\. Applications include long and short\-range communications and transponder systems, typically utilizing ultra\-low power signaling techniques\. Our design challenges include highly miniaturized electronics, low\-power maximally efficient transceivers, signal extraction in very low signal\-to\-noise environments, and signal analysis of RF and communication systems\.
