We are seeking highly motivated R&D Systems Engineer to become part of the NM Stockpile System Engineering team \(02221, 02222, 02223, 02224, 02225\)\. We are responsible for supporting the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile \-\- partnering with other Sandia organizations to design innovative and creative surveillance approaches for our high\-priority component and material evaluation efforts, develop multimillion dollar instrumented flight test units, and provide design agency engineering support for production\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Support technical studies supporting nuclear safety and other special topics,
+ Participate in work that is rooted in the fundamentals of science and engineering while applying a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles\.
+ Support testing and analysis of stockpile weapons systems/component performance\.
+ Develop working relationships with Important external interfaces including our National Nuclear Security Administration customers, DoD customers, Los Alamos National Laboratory, DoD contractors, Kansas City National Security Campus, and Pantex production plants\.

Some travel will be required to fulfill the duties of this position\.

Since there are several openings within the 2220 group, you may be placed in any of the five departments within the group \(2221, 2222, 2223, 2224, 2225\)\.

Required:

+ Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with minimum of 2 years related experience or a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline\.

Desired:

+ Demonstrated problem\-solving skills to develop creative technical solutions;
+ Eagerness to work in a multi\-disciplinary team environment;
+ Demonstrated communication and teaming skills;
+ Ability to bring diverse technical perspectives, experience, and interests to the group;

Department Description:

Stockpile Systems Engineering \(Departments 2221, 2222, 2223,2224, and 2225\) have responsibility for the B61, W76\-1, W78, W76\-0, and W88 stockpile systems\. The primary objective of these organizations is to assure the US nuclear weapon stockpile, remain safe, secure, reliable and of the highest performance as the underlying basis of the US nuclear deterrent capability\. We provide engineering support for the life\-cycle of the weapons, including maintenance, logistics, refurbishment, surveillance, special studies, testing, analysis and assessment\. Additionally, we provide support to ongoing development programs as they arise\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
