Job Description


We are seeking a Intern Summer \- R&D Undergrad

The Nuclear Weapon Security Advanced Concepts Department needs your help in exploring and developing innovative concepts and new technologies to meet challenging and diverse national security needs\! Our department is looking for undergraduate students majoring in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and related majors\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Research, develop, analyze, and test embedded systems, including custom circuit boards, microcontroller firmware, and field programmable gate arrays \(FPGAs\)
+ Research, develop, analyze, and test advanced and innovative sensor technologies
+ Design and conduct experiments to evaluate sensor technologies
+ Research, develop, and evaluate algorithms in hardware and software for signal processing, sensor fusion, data analytics, and human machine interfaces \(HMIs\)
+ Document conducted research, development, and testing results


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time \(or scheduled to graduate in the spring\) in an accredited undergraduate program
+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Note: If you have not yet started your undergraduate program, please apply to a high school intern position\.

Additional Requirements:

+ Pursuing a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related major
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy \(DOE\) Q\-level security clearance and Sigma 15 caveat


+ Experience in the hardware design of electronic systems using microcontrollers and FPGAs
+ Experience in the design, development, and testing of software/firmware
+ Experience in the design and development of wireless communication systems
+ Experience in data acquisition and signal analysis
+ Ability to communicate effectively \(written and verbal\)
+ GPA of 3\.5/4\.0
+ Demonstrated attributes of leadership
+ Active DOE Q\-level security clearance

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.

Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U\.S\. Air Force background screen for access to the work site\.
