We are seeking an early to mid\-career Radar Systems Engineers to provide fundamental RF skills in the research and development of advanced radar systems, hardware, software design, and mission engineering and join a team of software engineers responsible for integrated flight software that supports R&D on Synthetic Aperture Radar \(SAR\) systems, radar system command\-and\-control and flight data processing\. This development activity needs capabilities in real\-time embedded software development\. This R&D includes embedded programming and the creation of software bridges between our high\-level object\-oriented code and the radar systems’ custom FPGA designs\. The ability to travel approximately 15% of the time is needed\.

**Your development activities could include:**

+ Contribute to innovative radar systems design, analysis and integration\.
+ Evaluate radar system performance and phenomenology\.
+ Participate in formal program reviews\.
+ Define, flow, and trace product requirements\.
+ Develop Concepts of Operation\.
+ Develop test and qualification plans\.
+ Shape or guide research activities to support program needs\.
+ Document technical research using configuration management and collaborative environment tools\.
+ You will problem solve and support anomaly resolution activities\.
+ You will be the technical specialist that will collaborate with other design and support organizations\.
+ Serve as a Sandia representative on multi\-organizational project teams\.

Required:

+ You have an advanced degree \(Masters or PhD\) Master’s degree in electrical engineering, science or mathematics with experience in electromagnetic sensing systems\.
+ Your background includes understanding of/experience with the fundamentals of signal processing, 3D Geometry and electromagnetism\.
+ Your skillset includes experience with MATLAB for modeling and analyzing systems\.
+ The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance is required\.

Desired:

Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

+ Experience with Radar System hardware, software, systems analysis, and scattering phenomenology\.
+ Experience with electrical, electronics, and mechanical foundations to review designs with Mechanical, Electronics, Microwave, and RF Engineers\.
+ Python and C, C\+\+ software experience\.
+ Experience with Geographic Information System \(GIS\)\.
+ Ability to understand mathematically complex systems, develop and analyze models, and draw concise conclusions from them\.
+ Passion for field test work\.
+ Experience interacting with military personnel and protocol\.
+ Experience leading teams of people\.
+ Proven capability to collaboratively work with both internal and external clientele to the organization\.
+ Comfort with a position of technical leadership and the responsibility to make decisions and support them\.
+ Experience in preparing, publishing and presenting technical information including patents\.
+ Good technical communications skills \-\- in conversation, presentation, and writing\.
+ Critical thinking skills to determine root cause failure in complex systems\.
+ Ability to work well with others with a positive attitude\.
+ Active DOE Q\-level or DOD TS clearance\.

Department Description:

We offer R&D in design and development of Radar Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance \(ISR\) Systems, from system design through system integration to data collection and analysis\. Sandia applies expertise in ISR Synthetic Aperture Radar \(SAR\) and Ground Moving Target Indication \(GMTI\) systems design and operation\. We provide multidisciplinary system\-level and mission engineering supporting ongoing and future Radar ISR missions\. Missions can include multiple Radar sensor modes such as spotlight, dual\-resolution, and video SAR; coherent change detection \(CCD\); multi\-look imaging; GMTI\. The department is responsible for the design, oversight and delivery of full\-up systems for a wide variety of applications, operating environments and customers\. Software development capabilities include: object\-oriented analysis and design, operating system development, configuration and setup, quality attribute driven design, model\-driven development, component\-based development in support of a software product line, automated testing, driver software for COTS and custom hardware, real\-time embedded software, concurrent software for multi\-core processors and GPUs, and GUI software\. Digital design capabilities include: advanced digital signal processing \(analysis, simulation and implementation\), high speed ASIC and FPGA design, use of common digital interface architectures with embedded processors, high\-speed PCB design \(digital and mixed\-signal\), and VHDL design, simulation, implementation and test\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
