Job Description


We are looking for a Postdoctoral Appointee with interest in the fabrication, characterization, and measurement of hybrid semiconductor\-superconductor quantum systems with applications in quantum information science\.

On any given day, you may be called upon to:

+ Design and fabricate nanoscale quantum devices
+ Characterize and operate semiconductor quantum dot and superconductor devices at dilution refrigerator temperatures\.
+ Troubleshoot and optimize hybrid quantum devices
+ Collaborate with a diverse team, including experimentalists and theorists, with experience in quantum information science


+ PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance


+ Ability to quickly learn new experimental techniques
+ Experience making effective technical presentations
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Experience with semiconductor quantum systems or superconducting circuits, both fabrication and operation
+ Technical competency in nanoscale device fabrication
+ Experience with cryogenic measurement techniques
+ Experience working with quantum\-based devices in an experimental setting
+ Experience with dilution refrigerator operation
+ Scientific programming for efficient data collection
+ Ability to collaborate in a team environment, and interested in interdisciplinary research\.
+ Independent vision, creativity, and ability to pursue and achieve R&D milestones

Department Description:

The Quantum Phenomena Department \(01867\) is part of the Material, Physical, Chemical Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories which creates new scientific knowledge in support of Sandia's national security mission\. We provide science\-based solutions to meet the needs of various offices within the Department of Energy \(especially the Office of Basic Energy Sciences, various Energy Technology Offices, and the National Nuclear Security Administration\) as well as other government agencies\. Our work spans the spectrum from fundamental research to state\-of\-the\-art applications\. This department has a very broad range of research programs that include theory and experiment relating to quantum\-based computation, communication, and fundamental science\. Research topics in this department include quantum transport, quantum materials, quantum optics, as well as work on superconducting materials and devices\. We also have ongoing work on the physics of quantum dots, quantum wells, topological insulators, and 2D materials and interfaces\. The Quantum Phenomena Department at Sandia has a long history of performing cutting\-edge basic research on the transmission and manipulation of quantum\-based information\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
