The ISR Electromagnetics \(EM\) and Sensor Technologies Department is seeking an RF/microwave/sensor/antenna design engineer to be the B61\-12 LEP Antenna Product Realization Team \(PRT\) technical lead, as well as to participate in the development of advanced RF systems and antenna designs and concepts in support of a broad range of NW, interagency, synthetic aperture radar \(SAR\), and other programs and R&D initiatives\.

Your development activities could include:

+ Assure successful completion of antenna component development activities to meet FDR, PPI, QE, and FPU achievements
+ Learn the history of B61 antenna systems development, becoming the technical authority on antenna component designs
+ Direct and support electromagnetic analysis, testing, post\-processing of measured data, documentation, and internal publishing related to both the B61\-12 radar and JTA antennas
+ Participate in the design, analysis, development, and testing of other passive and active antenna structures, RF/microwave circuits, subsystems, and modules in support of DoD, DHS, OGA, and other SPP\-related programs and initiatives

You are expected to have experience and understanding in the application of principles, theories, concepts, and practices relating to RF/microwave/antenna design, to perform modeling and simulation supporting design and analysis activities, and to participate in experimental testing of completed designs\. Occasional travel may be required\.


+ You have an advanced degree \(Masters or PhD\) in Electrical Engineering with related coursework and experience with electromagnetic \(EM\) analysis, antenna/array design, and RF/microwave circuit/system design
+ Your background includes use of commercial RF/microwave circuit simulation and antenna design tools such as HFSS, ADS, CST, Momentum, Genesys, FEKO, IE3D, etc\.
+ Your skillset includes experience with MATLAB/Simulink, as well as other programming languages \(C/C\+\+, Java, Fortran, Python, VB script, etc\.\)
+ You have experience with antenna/array measurement techniques on compact and/or near\-field ranges, and experience in the use of RF/microwave test equipment for radiation pattern and mutual coupling characterization, network analysis, spectrum analysis, noise characterization, etc\.


Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

+ Experience with design, fabrication, and testing of one or more of the following: printed antennas, conformal antennas, antenna arrays, RF communications architectures \(up/down conversion chains\), RF front ends, T/R modules, low noise amplifiers, power amplifiers, phase locked loops and synthesizers, mixers, filters, other RF components, etc
+ Experience with RF circuit layout and RF PCB manufacturing techniques
+ Experience in radar system development and radar hardware architectures
+ Experience working in NW programs and/or with the NNSA National Security Campus \(NSC\) in Kansas City
+ Proven ability to lead individuals and teams in the process of technology development and innovation
+ Current possession of a DOE Q clearance

Department Description:

We offer R&D in design and development of Radar Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance \(ISR\) Systems, from system design through system integration to data collection and analysis\. Sandia applies expertise in ISR Synthetic Aperture Radar \(SAR\) and Ground Moving Target Indication \(GMTI\) systems design and operation\. We provide multidisciplinary system\-level and mission engineering supporting ongoing and future Radar ISR missions\. Missions can include multiple Radar sensor modes such as spotlight, dual\-resolution, and video SAR; coherent change detection \(CCD\); multi\-look imaging; GMTI\. The department is responsible for the design, oversight and delivery of full\-up systems for a wide variety of applications, operating environments and customers\. Software development capabilities include: object\-oriented analysis and design, operating system development, configuration and setup, quality attribute driven design, model\-driven development, component\-based development in support of a software product line, automated testing, driver software for COTS and custom hardware, real\-time embedded software, concurrent software for multi\-core processors and GPUs, and GUI software\. Digital design capabilities include: advanced digital signal processing \(analysis, simulation and implementation\), high speed ASIC and FPGA design, use of common digital interface architectures with embedded processors, high\-speed PCB design \(digital and mixed\-signal\), and VHDL design, simulation, implementation and test\.
