Job Description

:

We are seeking a motivated and talented R&D Systems Engineer to fulfill a role within the Mk21 Fuze Systems Department to support development activities in the integration of the new Arming and Fuzing Assembly \(AFA\) into the Mk21 reentry vehicle\.

Everyday tasks/responsibilities could include some or all of the following:

+ Work with Air Force and Kansas City National Security Complex \(KCNSC\) towards maturing a sustainment plan for this DOD owned, DOE designed AFA
+ Manage and lead surveillance planning efforts, including working with the Weapons Evaluation Test Laboratory \(WETL\)
+ Lead systems level safety efforts, including maturing safety requirements, ensuring correct flow down to component level, and working with the Air Force Safety Center \(AFSEC\) ultimately toward Nuclear Safety Design Certification
+ Lead Nuclear Enterprise Assurance \(NEA\) efforts, including updating the Program Protection Plan in coordination with the production agency \(NSC\) and working with subsystem and component PRTs to ensure implementation of TRUST strategy
+ Work with a large team of people across different agencies on an exciting, fast\-paced, multi\-year, multi\-million dollar program

Required:

+ Bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related STEM technical field;
+ Ability to travel up to 20%;
+ Active DOE Q security clearance or equivalent\.

Department Description:

The Mk21 Fuze Systems Department is part of the Sandia/California Weapons Systems Engineering Center, responsible for assuring the safety, reliability, and security of U\.S\. nuclear weapons\. The department has the specific responsibility for the systems engineering and integration, qualification, and deployment of a new Arming and Fuzing Assembly \(AFA\) for the Mk21 Air Force reentry vehicle and will reach production in 2022\. This large, well\-established program is currently in full\-scale engineering development\.
