We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee working in computational electronic structure\. You will contribute to a multi\-disciplinary effort aimed at realizing Beyond\-CMOS electronic devices fabricated using atomic precision advanced manufacturing\.

On any given day, you may be called to:

+ Collaborate with a team of computational electronic structure and semiconductor device theorists working to understand the properties of nano\-electronic systems\.
+ Develop models that will inform the efforts of a team of experimentalists creating new fabrication processes, interpreting experimental outcomes, and measuring devices\.
+ Apply computational electronic structure methods to describe the thermodynamics and kinetics governing atomic precision incorporation of dopants into semiconductor systems\.
+ Support publication and presentation efforts by contributing to journal articles and participating in scientific conferences\.


+ A PhD conferred within 5 years prior to employment in physics, chemistry, materials science, electrical engineering, or a related discipline
+ Experience in computational atomistic simulation
+ A record of publication of results in peer\-reviewed journals and external presentations at scientific conferences


+ A strong desire to collaborate with a broad multi\-disciplinary team and the ability to pose and answer research questions based on the long\-term goals of that team
+ Expert knowledge of solid\-state physics, surface science, and/or physical chemistry
+ Knowledge of electronic structure methods, e\.g\., density functional theory, Hartree\-Fock and post\-Hartree\-Fock, and/or quantum Monte Carlo
+ Experience using high performance computing systems to and interpret physics simulations aimed at guiding experiments
+ Programming experience in Python, Fortran, and/or C\+\+
+ Experience developing and presenting effective technical presentations

Department Description:

The Non\-conventional Computing Technologies department \(1425\) pursues foundational research and development of: \- non\-conventional approaches to energy\-efficient, classical digital computing, both multi\-user systems and special\-purpose, embedded systems; \- quantum information processors that will provide exponential speed\-ups for selected computational problems;\- novel computers such as neuro\-inspired designs that can execute neuromorphic algorithms with great facility \(in collaboration with the Data Driven and Neuromorphic Computing department, 1462\)\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.

Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\.
