The ISR Electromagnetics \(EM\) & Sensor Technologies Department \(05345\) is seeking an early career Electromagnetics \(EM\)/Radio Frequency \(RF\) engineer with a strong mathematical and Digital Signal Processing \(DSP\) background to support research and development of advanced radar concepts and algorithms\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Participate in the development of advanced sensor concepts in support of SAR and other programs
+ Innovate in the modeling, design, and development of digital/analog/RF signals and systems in support of radar\-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance \(ISR\) capabilities
+ Collaborate with other researchers in the theoretical analysis, numerical modeling, and experimental testing of state\-of\-the\-art radar hardware and advanced algorithms
+ Solve challenging multi\-disciplinary problems
+ Document and communicate technical results
+ Learn, grow, and innovate with autonomy

Required:

+ You have a master’s degree, or higher, in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in EM/RF and DSP, and a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Applied Mathematics
+ Your background includes experience with commercial RF/microwave circuit simulation and antenna design tools, such as ADS, CST, HFSS, etc\., as well as 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks and/or Autodesk tools
+ Your skillset includes familiarity with the use of RF/microwave test equipment \(network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, arbitrary waveform generator, RF oscilloscopes, etc\.\), RF circuits and antenna modeling/measurement techniques
+ You bring extensive experience with MATLAB signal processing, as well as general programming experience \(C/C\+\+, JAVA, etc\.\)
+ You have a current and active DOE L Clearance, or higher, with ability to obtain a Q clearance with SCI \(equivalent DOD clearance can also be considered\)

Desired:

Ideally, your background should also include:

+ Experience with multi\-channel radar system concepts, analysis, and calibration
+ Experience with building and debugging mixed\-signal circuits and systems
+ Experience with MATLAB and its DSP/instrument control features
+ Experience with FPGA implementation of DSP algorithms
+ Experience with image processing methods for target location/recognition
+ Experience with preparing, publishing, and presenting technical information, including patents
+ Proven ability to exercise critical thinking skills in solving complex problems, as well as to work well in team environments
+ Excellent communication and documentation skills

Department Description:

The ISR Electromagnetic \(EM\) & Sensor Technologies Department \(05345\) operates within the “Radar Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance \(ISR\)” business area to develop and field high\-performance synthetic aperture radar \(SAR\) systems, and to support various Nuclear Deterrence \(ND\), Defense Systems \(DS\), homeland security, and interagency programs and R&D initiatives\. We specialize in electromagnetic design, simulation, analysis, and testing activities, including antenna/radar design and development, radar\-cross\-section analysis, and RF systems engineering\. Department 5345 also maintains and operates the “Facility for Antenna and RCS Measurements” \(FARM\) located in the Coyote Test Field area of Kirtland Air Force Base \(KAFB\), as well as the “Facility for Advanced Radar Development” \(FARAD\), an advanced airborne radar test bed capability\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a SCI security clearance\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.
