Job Description

:

We are seeking an Intern Year Round \- Technical High School

The selected student will support the Primary Standards Laboratory Alternating Current \(AC\) Laboratory as well as assist with calibration and research activities in the AC Laboratory\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Learn basic research skills
+ Be a part of a high\-performing calibration and research team
+ Demonstrate increasing levels of independence and responsibility
+ Show a commitment to operate in and contribute to a safe operating environment
+ Write software to communicate with laboratory equipment and analyze data
+ Perform electrical equipment test setup and measurements

Required:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Attending a local high school
+ Enrolled full time, as defined by the school
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ Minimum 16 years of age
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Desired:

+ Good written and oral communication skills \(students will be expected to present results of their work at group meetings or program meetings\)
+ Basic ability to use Microsoft Office Suite software
+ Skills such as reliability, critical thinking, and organization – these skills can be demonstrated by previous school, job, or volunteer activities or noted by references
+ Experience working in a laboratory environment
+ Experience designing and building electrical circuits
+ Advanced Placement coursework in science or mathematics
+ Participation in hands\-on research through science fair, volunteer internships, or other activities that demonstrate planning, self\-motivation, organizational skills, etc\.
+ Excellent oral/written communication skills as demonstrated by coursework or special projects \(academic or extra\-curricular\)
+ Experience with software development in programming languages such as Python, LabView and MetCal

Department Description:

Department 9143, Primary Electrical Standards, provides calibration support to the Nuclear Security Enterprise, including support for SNL research and production organizations\. Department 9143 consists of three project groups: DC Electrical, AC Electrical, and Microwave\. Each project develops and maintains primary standards, consults on measurement problems, calibrates reference standards, and assists in technical oversight of the DOE/NNSA Nuclear Weapons Complex contractor standards laboratories\. The overall calibration program is accredited by the NIST National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.

Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\.
