Job Description

:

The Military Systems Analytics \(MSA\) Group is seeking an enthusiastic, forward\-thinking leader to run the new Military Systems Engineering Department 5492\. This manager will have the critical responsibility of strengthening and growing the technical systems engineering competency to support success for programs within the Integrated Military Systems Center 5400\. The manager shall be accountable for the success of all organization’s program and project work, within budget and schedule constraints\. He\\she will work to establish relationships across the laboratory with key stakeholders to partner in the promotion of systems engineering while developing and implementing a strategy that shall maintain required staff resources and tools\. You will be expected to have an active role in program development, internal and external to Sandia, to seek opportunities where this organization may assist in systems engineering for technology development, capabilities\-based assessments, gap identification, vulnerability assessments, and technology road\-mapping\. You will be dynamically involved in career development of each staff, encouraging active engagement and accountability\. You will be teaming with the other MSA Program organizations to support Scrimmage analyses and Decision Analytics to together provide a full suite of analyses for our internal\\external customers\. This will require frequent engagement with partners across Sandia, the DoD & DOE community, other government labs and OGAs\. All work shall be performed ensuring consistent alignment to laboratory standards and guidelines related to Safety, Security, and Quality\. Moderate travel will be required\.

Required:

+ Advanced degree \(Master’s or PhD\) and a bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field\.
+ Eight or more years relevant technical experience\.
+ Knowledge and experience with the application of systems engineering for complex technology development\.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-level security clearance with SCI, which may require a polygraph examination\.

Desired:

+ Two or more years of demonstrated leadership experience
+ Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a large or multidisciplinary team across the laboratories
+ Proficiency in written and verbal communications \(e\.g\., technical presentations\)
+ Demonstrated business and social acumen
+ Demonstrated ability to develop and execute an action plan given multiple, conflicting requirements and constraints
+ Familiarity with modern project management and model\-based systems engineering practices/tools\.
+ Relevant experience in scientific/engineering development, testing, and delivery
+ Experience in successfully interacting with and influencing a variety of stakeholders at all levels, customers, industry partners, management and staff
+ Leading cross\-organizational teams with a diversity of backgrounds and broad experiences
+ Forming networks that transcend structural boundaries
+ Demonstrated capabilities in program development to include leadership in fostering external relationships for development of new business opportunities for Sandia
+ Direct experience working with the DoD, DOE and other federal agencies
+ Experience with bombs, projectiles, rocket systems, and ballistic & maneuvering reentry vehicles
+ Demonstrated understanding of the synergy between modeling & simulation, ground testing/experiments, and flight demonstration
+ Proven awareness of and ability to work across Sandia's program and organizational structures
+ A history of establishing and maintaining trusted partnerships
+ Demonstrated interest and success in recruiting, hiring, and developing/mentoring new personnel
+ Active Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted Q\-level security clearance
+ Active SCI clearance

Department Description:

Military Systems Engineering, Department 5492, is responsible for the systems engineering execution for programs within the Integrated Military Systems \(IMS\) Center 5400\. The staff in Department 5492 apply technical systems engineering to acquire stakeholders’ needs, transforming these into system requirements, and developing functional\\physical architectures supporting trades analyses performed to find optimal solution sets\. The team leads the technical execution of the engineering design, development, and demonstration of complex engineering solutions for the Integrated Military Systems programs\. The solutions meet the stakeholders’ needs with verifiable, traceable, and testable requirements\. Integration with other MSA physics\-based analyses and models strengthen the validity of the requirement derivation that is performed\. Work activities and methods used are Model\-Based Systems Engineering \(MBSE\), concept of operations development, requirements analysis and definition, system design descriptions, trade studies, design analysis, interface design & assessment, integrated system test planning, system verification & validation, and configuration management\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a SCI security clearance\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.
