Job Description


We are seeking a R&D S&E, Electrical Engineer\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Play a critical role in the United States Nuclear Security Enterprise, nuclear weapon design and function, and the role of Sandia National Laboratories
+ Lead/participate/contribute on a high performing team in the development of conceptual and qualified test systems to deliver high\-quality data that meets customer requirements and expectations
+ Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of design engineers, systems engineers, and subject matter experts in the successfully execute mission critical designs\.
+ Work hands\-on with a highly technical multidisciplinary team to execute stockpile evaluation tests\.
+ Design, develop and qualify an electrical testing interface for a complex system and a complex device under test \(DUT\)\.
+ Develop and implement innovative solutions to technically complex challenges
+ Provide evaluation, simulation, and test data reports on tester component designs or issues
+ Design, develop and qualify a deterministic embedded system using LabVIEW RT/FPGA
+ Design, develop and qualify high quality object oriented software systems with a focus on re\-usability and maintainability in Java, LabVIEW or \.NET
+ Participate in the development of system or subsystem level requirements for testers Incorporate new design tools and approaches into our ever\-improving design processes
+ Be called upon to peer review other design efforts and concepts within the Labs
+ Investigate and troubleshoot tester equipment that may base on legacy technologies or the latest state of the art technologies
+ Understand the intricacy of a subsystem software and hardware working together with an existing tester and explain the functionalities
+ Perform circuit analysis on weapon components with the tester interfaces
+ Maintain and update the tester drawing packages

Occasional travel may be required\.

+ Bachelor’s and advanced degree \(Masters or PhD\) in an Engineering or Physical Science discipline; a bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Physical Science discipline plus four years directly related experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree\.


+ Candidates must have experience in leading or participating on high performance teams supporting technical/physical analysis and or product realization of high consequence systems\.
+ Degree in electrical or electronics engineering\.
+ Experience in the design, development, and qualification of complex testers and test systems\.
+ Experience in requirements analysis, qualification plan development, and supporting large scale testing of complex systems\.
+ Experience and/or education in the design, development and qualification of electrical systems, components, circuits, and modules\.
+ Experience with component failure analysis \(FMEA\. Fishbone, etc\)\.
+ Basic proficiency with electrical circuit modelling and analysis tools\.
+ Working knowledge of generating build to print design definition drawings\.
+ Experience with electrical testing laboratories for nondestructive testing or destructive physical analysis \(DPA\)\.
+ Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills\.
+ Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines\.

Department Description:

The Air Delivered Weapon Systems Tester Development Department \(02256\) and the Ballistic Missile Tester Development Department \(02255\) are responsible for the design, development, qualification and deployment of complex system testers and test equipment in support of the Nuclear Security Enterprise\. Specifically, these testers and test systems acquire and deliver data to the Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Surveillance Program\. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
