Sandia National Laboratory's Wounded Warrior Career Development Program \(WWCP\) has an opening for veterans who have been wounded in combat and meet eligibility criteria\.

We are seeking an engineer to join the Analytical Structural Dynamics Department\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Plan, analyze, integrate, implement and/or test engineering systems for Sandia’s missions via FEA
+ Perform systematic FEA studies in order to integrate or implement engineering solutions
+ Use engineering principles to design or develop structures, instruments, machines, test plans, processes, systems, or technologies, and use FEA to forecast their behavior under specific operating conditions
+ Undertake creative work, evaluate potential design solutions and trade\-offs via FEA, and use this knowledge to support system integration and implementation
+ Mentor incoming Wounded Warriors

The Wounded Warrior Career Development Program is a unique limited\-term career development employment opportunity that enables eligible veterans to acquire career\-based skills at Sandia through training, mentoring, and real\-world work experience while supporting mission success\. + Must be a U\.S\. military veteran wounded in combat
+ Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or 8 years of technical experience
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance


+ CAD coursework/experience
+ Finite Element Analysis coursework/experience
+ Structural Dynamics Experience
+ MATLAB or PYTHON experience
+ Willingness to share experiences to improve understanding of combat theater and enhance connections with members of the workforce
+ Interest in furthering your education

Department Description:

The Analytical Structural Dynamics Department provides expertise defining, assessing, and predicting the structural dynamic performance of Sandia products\. We partner with Sandia product designers to predict and define mechanical environments for the entire design life\-cycle\. We develop both linear and mildly non\-linear models for computational simulation of a product's mechanical behavior\. We assist product engineers in optimizing their designs early in a development program and to fully explore the product's performance space during final design qualification\. We work closely with experimental structural dynamics experts at Sandia to develop validated models and optimal testing protocols\. Our department develops state\-of\-the\-art tools for characterizing and analyzing structural dynamics environments and their effects on structures ranging from full\-scale weapon and spacecraft systems to micro\-scale electro\-mechanical devices\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\. This Limited Term Employee \(LTE\) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years\.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance\.
