Job Description


We are seeking an Intern Alternate Schedule \- R&D Undergrad

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Support outdoor data collection
+ Assist with recording ground truth logs and performing data reduction activities for seismic, acoustic and imaging sensor systems for data exploitation applications
+ Work with engineers to test and deploy unattended ground sensor systems test and evaluate advance image exploitation algorithms, and perform data collection activities alongside engineers to gather experimental data
+ Assist in fabrication of electronics to support field testing

A successful candidate will have computer knowledge, proficiency with office programs, the ability to work on a team with engineers, and be self\-motivated, eager, and have meticulous planning skills and thorough note taking skills\.


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Undergraduate student at an accredited university
+ Enrolled full time in the term immediately preceding the internship
+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Active student status
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the internship \(maximum of one academic term and adjacent summer\)
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ Excellent academic standing
+ Desire to pursue education in engineering beyond undergraduate studies
+ Willingness to work outside, in sometimes extreme environmental conditions, alongside engineers in field tests and data collections
+ Proficiency in modern computers, have an understanding of programming, and be proficient at modern business and office software
+ Ability to work as part of a multi\-disciplinary team


+ Familiarity with some software fundamentals in engineering

+ Experience with MatLab and Solid Works

Department Description:

The Sensor Exploitation Applications Department develops and implements pattern recognition approaches called Automatic Target Recognition \(ATR\) algorithms that detect, identify, and classify objects of interest\. Department 5448 applies these techniques to a variety of data sources, including Synthetic Aperture Radar \(SAR\) imagery, High Range Resolution \(HRR\) radar, optical and long\-wave Infrared imagery, and acoustic data\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.

Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\.
