Job Description

:

We are seeking a R&D S&E, Mechanical Engineer to perform mechanical engineering design and assembly support as well as testing and qualification for the baseline B61\-12 JTA configuration\. The work is dynamic and fast paced and will require interfacing with many Sandia organizations, Los Alamos, Kansas City, Pantex and the Air Force\. The B61\-12 JTA team is a small, dynamic and well\-integrated team\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Support flight line operations with F\-15E, B\-2A, F\-35 and other aircraft\.
+ Work closely with the B61\-12 JTA team and the JTA lead mechanical engineer in particular\.
+ Utilize strong interpersonal and communication skills

Required:

+ Bachelor’s AND advanced degree \(Masters or PhD\) in mechanical engineering or relevant engineering field; a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 4 years relevant mechanical engineering experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree\.
+ Active US DOE Q security clearance or DoD Top Secret clearance

Desired:

+ Experience in nuclear weapons work at Sandia\.
+ Experience in the nuclear weapons product definition system\.
+ Experience working with Sandia design definition group\.
+ Experience with hardware assembly/disassembly \- creating assembly procedures, oversight of hardware assembly operations, familiarity with the Work Planning and Controls process\.
+ Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment\.
+ Experience with the NW product definition system and experience developing assembly procedures, overseeing hardware assembly operations and ability to work effectively with technologists, engineers and management is desired\.

Department Description:

The B61\-12 Non\-WR Systems Engineering department \(2324\) is one of ten departments responsible for the Sandia system program management, design and qualification of the B61\-12 life extension program \(LEP\)\. These ten departments work closely with each other and with other agencies within the Nuclear Security Enterprise \(e\.g\., NNSA, Kansas City Plant, Pantex Plant\) and within the DoD \(e\.g\., Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center\) to execute the B61 LEP\. Department 2324 is responsible for the design and delivery of non\-WR system assemblies for the B61\-12: Joint Test Assembly \(JTA\), Compatibility Test Units \(CTUs\), Trainers and Ancillary Equipment, and Flight Bodies/IOT&E bodies\. The department activities include design, testing and assembly and interfaces heavily with the other B61\-12 departments as well as with system and component organizations throughout Sandia\.
