Job Description

:

We are seeking an Intern Year Round \- R&D Fellow Grad

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Support the development, test, evaluation, and installation of sensor systems for physical security systems
+ Utilize technologies including radar, IR, microwave, fence disturbance, and buried line sensors
+ Assist in the development of new technologies to field test, evaluation, application, and deployment of existing technologies to meet security system requirements
+ Assist with system integration, test planning, data analysis and reporting, and training of internal and external personnel in the application of security technologies

Required:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Earned bachelor's degree
+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Ability to work up 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ Receiving financial support through a fellowship or educational institute program
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ An Associate’s degree in electrical, electronics, mechanical, electro\-mechanical engineering technologies, or related field
+ Understanding the operating principles of intrusion detection sensors
+ Ability to apply creative problem\-solving techniques and develop sound engineering solutions when multiple constraints exist
+ Desire to be a sensor subject matter expert and aptitude for life\-long learning as it relates to technology and its application
+ Ability to function well in a fast\-paced environment with changing requirements
+ Excellent people skills including the ability to work effectively on teams and with multiple customers and to resolve technical issues
+ Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with management and project leads
+ Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
+ Ability to travel to domestic and international locations

A job placement assessment \(JPA\) will be required as part of the screening for this position\. This JPA will evaluate your ability to meet the physical requirements of this job\.

Desired:

+ A Bachelor's degree in a related engineering technology
+ Experience in developing, designing or evaluating security technologies or sensor technologies/systems
+ Relevant technical expertise in sensors applied to physical security systems
+ Experience with military applications of physical protection technologies
+ Experience in field test and evaluation
+ Ability to function successfully in a matrixed organization
+ A passion for identifying, understanding, and applying new technologies and approaches to security

Department Description:

The International Nuclear Security Engineering \(INSE\) department is part of the Global Security and Cooperation Center\. The mission of INSE is to improve the security of vulnerable stockpiles of nuclear weapons and weapons\-usable nuclear materials worldwide by providing technical expertise to the National Nuclear Security Administration's International Material Protection Control and Accounting \(MPC&A\) Program\.

Part of the INSE portfolio is managing testing facilities at the Nuclear Security Technology Complex \(NSTC\)\. The NSTC specializes in designing and developing state\-of\-the\-art physical security solutions that include interior and exterior intrusion detection, alarm assessment technologies, all with a focus on performance testing, technology evaluation, vulnerability assessments, design development, installation, and training\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.
