Job Description

:

We are seeking an Intern Summer \- Laborer Union High School

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Collect trash, maintain grounds and perform similar activities
+ Operate trucks and forklifts in connection with laborer crew activities
+ Perform frequent physical effort of 21 to 60 pounds which will include exposure to all types of weather
+ Perform various unskilled manual assignments entailing a relatively high degree of physical effort including the moving of furniture, laboratory and office equipment and other items
+ Drill holes in walls of various constructions such as cinder block, sheetrock, masonry or sheet metal to prevent wobbling and toppling of shelving, cabinets and other similar storage equipment to prevent wobbling and toppling of shelving, cabinets and other similar storage equipment
+ Install fastening devices such as toggle bolts, molly screws, tag bolts, tapcon anchors, etc\., into walls and secure
+ Dig postholes with manual or power equipment as well as erect, repair or dismantle area fences
+ Install traffic signs or similar items
+ Assist with excavating, backfilling, tamping, leveling and grading for utility lines, pits, shelters, target locations, planted areas, drainage ditches or other purposes
+ Brace excavations as directed to prevent cave\-ins
+ Break up concrete or asphalt; patch streets or other paved areas; and cut concrete slabs and other masonry products as instructed
+ Mix concrete; pour into holes or existing forms; and remove forms when concrete has hardened
+ Collect and dispose of refuse and salvageable materials
+ Steam clean various equipment and assist maintenance craftsmen on plant assignments
+ Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways and other areas as required
+ Apply various forms of exterminating products to kill insects, rodents and weeds

Required:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Attending a local high school or living with a parent or legal guardian near the work site if under 18 years of age
+ Enrolled full time, as defined by the school
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 2\.5/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ Minimum 16 years of age
+ U\.S\. citizenship

A job placement assessment \(JPA\) will be required as part of the screening for this position\. This JPA will evaluate your ability to meet the physical requirements of this job\.

As a condition of employment, the selected candidate will be represented by the Metal Trades Council \(MTC\), which requires monthly membership dues or agency fees\. The position may require the ability to pass a job placement assessment for performing essential job functions\. New hires into an MTC represented position will remain in the initial position for six \(6\) months \(twelve \[12\] months if a Tradesman\) before being eligible to be considered for other Sandia employment\.

Department Description:

Grounds and Road Services Team provides preventive and corrective maintenance to all landscape areas and roadways\. This team maintains asphalt, unimproved roadways, parking lots, pedestrian travel\-ways, fences and associated signs, grounds cleanup, grading activity, weed control, maintains fire breaks and water delivery to under round storage tanks\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.
