Job Description

:

We are seeking an Intern Summer \- Technical High School

This position will give the intern a chance to team with other technical staff to evaluate various computer\-controlled metrology systems\.

On any given day, you may be called on to assist technical staff:

+ Assist technical staff in operating Flow, Acceleration, Shock and Humidity calibration systems
+ Assist technical staff troubleshoot programs associated with calibration systems
+ Assist technical staff with operating electronic equipment associated in calibrations

Required:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Attending a local high school or living with a parent or legal guardian near the work site if under 18 years of age
+ Enrolled full time, as defined by the school
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ Minimum 16 years of age
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ Experience with Microsoft Office
+ Good interpersonal and organizational skills
+ Dependability
+ Exceptional team skills
+ Interest in physical sciences, math, computer science, or engineering disciplines

Desired:

+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.7/4\.0
+ Current Junior or Senior in High School
+ Self\-directed
+ Familiarity with computers and software development
+ Course work in advanced high school physics, calculus, computer programming

Department Description:

Department 9144, Primary Physical Standards, provides calibration support to the Nuclear Security Enterprise, including support for SNL research and production organizations\. Department 9144 includes multiple projects and consists of parameters such as flow, humidity, leaks, vacuum, radiation, optics, temperature and dimensional measurement\. Primary Physical Standards, maintains a wide variety of measurement expertise and consults on technical problems, calibrates reference standards, and assists in technical oversight of the DOE/NNSA Nuclear Weapons Complex contractor standards laboratories\. The overall calibration program is accredited by the NIST National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.
