Job Description

:

We are seeking a Laboratory Support Technologist to join the Z Operations’ Center Section team\.

Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to:

+ Loading and unloading the Z Machine, stack refurbishment and magnetically insulated transmission line \(MITL\) refurbishment
+ Operating hand tools \(e\.g\., grinders, sanders, wrenches, etc\.\)
+ Operating heavy equipment \(e\.g\., forklifts, cranes, custom industrial equipment, etc\.\)

This work environment requires extended physical activity while wearing personal protection equipment \(PPE\), including full Tyvek and respirator \(2\-6 hours per day\); entering and working in confined spaces and non\-air\-conditioned environments; climbing up and down ladders numerous times a day while wearing PPE; climbing multiple flights of stairs numerous times a day; and bending, twisting, climbing, crawling, crouching, squatting, pushing, and pulling\. The work schedule adapts routinely, and flexibility in responding to emerging mission needs is expected\.

Required:

+ High school diploma plus one year of experience working refurbishing the stack and Magnetically Insulated Transmission Lines for the Z Machine
+ Minimum of one\-year experience working in a Beryllium Regulated and Beryllium Contamination Control Areas as well as Radiological Materials Areas
+ Experience in work environments that require wearing PPE and working in confined space\(s\)
+ Experience operating hand tools and heavy equipment
+ Possess a valid driver’s license
+ Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance

Department Description:

Department 01671, _Z Mission Assurance, Execution, and Analytics_ , is a diverse, interdisciplinary team dedicated to ensuring the operational readiness, agile & adaptive execution, and system\-level analysis for High Energy Density Physics \(HEDP\) campaigns at Sandia National Laboratories’ Z Machine\.

By applying systems engineering approaches and creating advanced software solutions, Department 01671 collaborates across Center 01600 to realize and analyze concepts of operation at the complex multi\-stakeholder Z facility, create and steward novel methods for workflow management & inter\-team coordination, and develop and deliver local capability enhancements\.

Additionally, the team ensures that Z’s final insulator and transmission line components are prepared to reliably stand\-off millions of Volts and deliver tens of millions of Amperes to complex experiment\-specific configurations that they’ve prepared in the machine\. Dedicated Z facility\-specific quality management, ES&H, and logistics resources work together to provide essential mission support for the entire Z facility and its many dynamic mission needs\.
