Job Description

:

We are seeking a R&D S&E, Systems Engineer to become part of the B61\-12 LEP Systems Engineering team\. Specifically, the selected individual will join the B61\-12 Preflight Bomb Subassembly \(PBSA\) Product Realization Team \(PRT\) as a System’s Point of Contact with responsibilities which include liaison activities with the Preflight Controller PRTs and is sub\-components, as well as the APBA PRT\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Be responsible for the delivery and integration of this major component for System level tests, as well as developing the technical body of knowledge supporting our understanding of component performance and safety margins through the use of experimental and computational methods\.
+ Understand component requirements, design, and performance specifications and environments, as well as integration in the B61\-12 system for System level tests \(flight and lab tests\)\.
+ Conduct design trades, defining required system mechanical tests to measure performance, assessing test results from lab and flight tests, participating in anomaly resolutions, as well as other activities necessary to support maturing the B61\-12 to a baseline design that meets all requirements\.
+ Support qualification activities for the PBSA and components within the subassembly\.

External interfaces include our National Nuclear Security Administration, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the Kansas City National Security Center \(KCNSC\) production plant\. Internal interfaces include sub\-components to the Pre\-flight Controller, quality, design definition, test and evaluation, computational simulation and independent assessment organizations\.

This position requires travel

Required:

+ Bachelor’s and advanced degree \(Master’s or PhD\) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or other relevant STEM field
+ Experience in one or more of the following areas: System engineering of large and complex systems, experience with NW weapon design and development, requirements development and mapping, system trade studies, qualification testing and analysis, environmental testing, material aging and analysis, computational modeling and simulation, MC and STS requirements\.
+ Active US DOE Q security clearance

+ Proven leader in a diverse engineering environment with excellent personal interaction skills\.
+ Proven ability to integrate, build, and work effectively across technical teams, interface with customers and suppliers to resolve issues, and conduct tradeoffs to identify system solutions\.
+ Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple teams responsible for complex systems\.

Department Description:

The B61\-12 Integrated System Design Department has systems engineering and design responsibilities for three \(3\) major subassemblies of the B61\-12, as well as oversight of production at KCNSC and Sandia External Production \(SEP\)\. Requirements and oversight activities are provided to multiple component organizations and teams through this department\. In addition, the Non\-Nuclear Component Management Team \(NNCMT\) resides within the department, providing leadership and oversight for all non\-nuclear component PRT activities\. We are currently in Phase 6\.4, Production Engineering, working toward system qualification and FPU of the system in 2019\.
