We are seeking an Intern Year Round \- R&D Grad

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Conduct or support research related to wide area and microgrid controls renewable and distributed generation, energy storage, power electronics and advanced sensors
+ Assist with programming
+ Assist with data analysis
+ Conduct laboratory experimentation, modeling and simulation of energy systems using a variety of software


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Earned bachelor's degree
+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer

Additional Requirements:

+ Demonstrated experience conducting analysis, modeling, simulation and programming
+ Completed Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent major
+ Prior research or work experience involving electric grid or energy systems
+ Programming experience in Matlab and/or Python environments


+ Experience with tools and methods for distribution or transmission systems analysis
+ Knowledge of energy systems controls and protection
+ Familiarity with power electronics components and systems
+ Familiarity with optimization techniques

Department Description:

With the growing national interest in clean energy technologies, this is an exciting time for Sandia's Photovoltaics program to develop and showcase new ideas and conduct groundbreaking R&D as we lead the U\.S\. industry in the development of new materials, component, and systems solutions to greatly enhance the role of photovoltaic systems in our national electric infrastructure\. This Department works closely with government and industry partners to assess the performance and reliability of commercial and near\-commercial photovoltaic \(PV\) components, and to develop new concepts and components for longer\-lasting, lower cost PV systems\. The group is located principally on two sites at the north end of Tech Area I: the Photovoltaic Systems Evaluation Laboratory \(PSEL\) and the Distributed Energy Technologies Laboratory \(DETL\)\. This work is largely sponsored by the Department of Energy's Solar Energy Technology Programs, while a growing portion of our customer base includes other Sandia departments, including LDRD; members of the U\.S\. industry; and other US government agencies\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.

Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U\.S\. Air Force background screen for access to the work site\.
