Job Description

:

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to focus on the operational application of systems engineering, performing functions such as developing, maintaining, and utilizing commercial\-off\-the\-shelf \(COTS\) tools to conduct requirement and risk management, verification and validation, and logistics and deployment activities as well as ensuring appropriate documentation is created and maintained over the full product lifecycle\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Employ a structured engineering approach that models the interactions between all components and ensures integration\.
+ Document and track component and system\-level performance requirements and develop acceptance criteria for the subsystems and system\.
+ Evaluate, test, and perform high\-level analysis of system functionality and subsystem contribution to system function, ensuring that system performance requirements and acceptance criteria are met\.
+ Support the tracking of system development, ensuring that all technical areas are moving according to a predetermined schedule and in an integrated development process\.
+ Work issues personally or flags areas where additional technical expertise or program leadership is needed\.
+ Verify requirements that don't require deep engineering multidisciplinary knowledge, such as dimensions, mass properties, or input and output signal voltage and timing\. Ensure that all requirements are addressed, verifies that the system design satisfies all requirements, and collects evidentiary packages to document completion for the customer\.

Required:

+ Bachelor's degree in a relevant STEM discipline\.
+ Two years of operational experience\.
+ Experience in risk analysis or system safety or safety engineering or other relevant safety experience\.
+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite computer applications\.

Desired:

+ Demonstrated capability working in a team environment and strong interpersonal interactions\.
+ An understanding of Work Planning and Controls \(WP&C\)\.
+ Demonstrated ability to work in a complex collaborative environment across all levels of staff and management\.
+ Strong oral and written communication skills\.
+ Active DOE/DOD security clearance\.

Department Description:

The ES&H Planning Department contributes to the execution of the Sandia National Laboratories' mission at all levels within the processes of planning and executing work across the laboratory\. We partner with our customers to integrate safety into management and work practices at all levels, addressing all types of work and all types of hazards to ensure protection of workers, the public, and the environment\. The department performs the following activities:

Provide program, technical assistance, and tools to assist customers in understanding and integrating work planning into their activities\.

Our subject matter expertise includes safety basis regulatory requirements, Primary Hazard Screening design/development/maintenance, Nuclear and Industrial Facility Safety Basis determination and support, Conduct of Operations, Readiness Assessments, and Work Planning and Control/Engineered Safety collaboration\.

Services provided include on\-site technical assistance, training, document reviews, audits and assessments, and support of failure modes analyses/hazard evaluations\. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.
