Job Description

:

We are seeking an Intern Summer \- Technical Undergrad

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Assist senior technical staff members in systems analysis of technical nuclear forensics capabilities for a national security application
+ Summarize findings
+ Document and brief staff members of findings at conclusion of summer internship

Required:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time \(or scheduled to graduate in the spring\) in an accredited undergraduate program
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ Completed freshman year and pursuing degree in Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
+ Completed at least one year of college\-level calculus as well as one year of college\-level laboratory courses
+ Proficiency in MATLAB as well as technical writing and presentation skills

Note: If you have not yet started your undergraduate program, please apply to a high school intern position\.

+ Demonstrated initiative in work or academic achievements
+ Interest in a nuclear forensics career

Department Description:

We generate insight through objective systems analyses and research for decisions on nuclear weapons \(NW\) and other national security issues\. Studies focus on topics, technologies and policies important to the Laboratories, Sandia's partners, sponsors, and national security\. The group consists of six departments and more than 50 analysts\. Diverse project teams collaborate internally as well as labs\-wide to provide meaningful representations of complex and strategic domains to decision\-makers by synthesizing data, diverse insights, judgments, and opinions using modeling, heuristic, and analysis tools\.

A snapshot of the department's range of study topics includes: the Sandia weapons program and the nuclear weapons complex; application of technology to emerging national defense problems; nuclear and conventional threats to the US; national nuclear policy and its impact on NNSA; studies of military requirements; intelligence questions affecting national security and Sandia; Advanced & Exploratory technologies; Sandia's workforce and capabilities for the future\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.

Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications\. Further, employees in New Mexico must pass a U\.S\. Air Force background screen for access to the work site\.
