Job Description


The ISR EM & Sensor Technologies Department is seeking an electromagnetic analyst to participate in the development of advanced systems and concepts in support of a broad range of NW, interagency, synthetic aperture radar \(SAR\), and other programs and R&D initiatives\. Responsibilities will include analytical, numerical, and experimental electromagnetics R&D activities, such as analysis of electromagnetic wave propagation and scattering phenomena, design and development of both passive and active antenna structures, and development of custom microwave devices/systems\. Candidates are expected to have experience and understanding in the application of principles, theories, concepts, practices, and standards relating to electromagnetic analysis and microwave design, to perform modeling and simulation in support of design and analysis activities, and to participate in experimental testing of completed designs\. Candidates will further be responsible for participating in the negotiation of technical and programmatic requirements with customers, and to provide deliverables within schedule and budgetary constraints\. Candidates must have the ability to work successfully in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, teaming environment\.


+ Bachelor's in STEM and MSEE degree with 3\+ years of experience, or doctoral degree in electrical engineering\.
+ Experience in the areas of analytical electromagnetics, computational electromagnetics, electromagnetic wave propagation, or scattering phenomena\.
+ Experience in the areas of antenna/array design, modeling, simulation, and measurement, and/or RF/microwave circuit, subsystem, and/or system design\.
+ Experience in development and use of FDTD, FEM, MoM, and/or ray\-tracing algorithms for the modeling of electromagnetic wave propagation from guided and radiating structures\.
+ Experience with use of commercial modeling and simulation tools such as HFSS, ADS, CST, Momentum, IE3D, FEKO, etc\.
+ Experience in the use of MATLAB/Simulink and/or similar numerical computation, high\-level programming languages, as well as other programming languages \(C/C\+\+, Java, Python, Fortran, VB script, etc\.\)\.


+ PhD in Electrical Engineering\.
+ Experience in the analysis of electromagnetic wave propagation in ionized and/or time\-varying plasma and anisotropic media\.
+ Experience in the analysis of electromagnetic scattering from gratings and frequency\-selective surfaces\.
+ Experience in the analysis and development of meta\-materials and/or material \(permittivity and permeability\) characterization techniques\.
+ Experience in radar system development and/or radar signal processing, with particular emphasis in the area of synthetic aperture radar\.
+ Demonstrated ability to lead individuals and teams in the process of technology development and innovation\.
+ Familiarity with and experience in use of RF/microwave test equipment and proper measurement techniques for radiation pattern and mutual coupling characterization, network analysis, spectrum analysis, noise characterization, etc\.
+ Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work successfully in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, teaming environment\.
+ Willingness to make independent contributions to diverse, multi\-disciplinary team efforts, with the ability to effectively prioritize and make decisions\.
+ Excellent communication and documentation skills\.
+ Current possession of DOE Q clearance\.

Department Description:

The ISR Electromagnetics \(EM\) & Sensor Technologies Department \(5345\) operates within the “Radar Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance \(Radar ISR\)” business area to develop and field high\-performance synthetic aperture radar \(SAR\) systems, and to support various Nuclear Weapon \(NW\), National Security programs \(NSP\), homeland security, and interagency programs and R&D initiatives\. The department specializes in electromagnetic design, simulation, analysis, and testing activities, including antenna/radar design and development, radar\-cross\-section analysis, and RF systems engineering\. Department 5345 also maintains and operates the “Facility for Antenna and RCS Measurements” \(FARM\) which is located in the Coyote Test Field area of Kirtland Air Force Base \(KAFB\)\.
