Job Description


The Safeguards and Security \(S&S\) Operations department is seeking a very motivated Physical Security Systems Manger\. The S&S Operations consist of the following areas: Physical Security, Integrated Protection Systems, Technical Security Systems, and Protection Forces\. The Physical Security Department consists of Physical Security and Integrated Protection Systems \(IPS\)\. The Team Lead of IPS is a direct report to the Physical Security Manager that reports to the SrMgr\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Oversee and manage members of the workforce within the department\.
+ Coordinate subordinate employee recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition and disciplinary actions\. Ensure that customer needs are satisfied by managing and coordinating specific deliverables, overall program and project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements\.
+ Balance the acquisition and development of staff resources, capabilities, and existing and future projects or programs\.
+ Ensure vulnerability analyses are conducted for program protection efforts, including identifying critical program information and evaluating and implementing mitigation strategies\.
+ Ensure the policies, procedures, and systems required for maintaining and enhancing overall security systems are implemented\.
+ Establish classification authority with Intelligence Community sponsor input\. Establishe strategic and tactical objectives and assigns milestones to ensure completion\.

Requires the ability to take the TSCM Executive Overview after selection and acceptance of position\.


+ Bachelor's, master's, or doctorate in relevant discipline and eight or more years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience\.
+ Active DOE/DOD security clearance\.
+ Ability to obtain a DOE SCI\-clearance, which may require a polygraph test\.


+ Master’s degree in engineering or physical sciences\.
+ Demonstrated leadership experience of 2 or more years\.
+ Experience related to physical protection of classified and nuclear material assets\.
+ Experience related to nuclear engineering and the use of nuclear material\.
+ Experience in TSCM\.
+ Experience in application of formal risk assessment and/or system effectiveness methodologies in management of a project or organization\.
+ Experience working with the Sandia Safeguards and Security Center or similar organization\.
+ Familiarity and direct execution of projects subject to requirements outlined in the DOE M 470\.4\-x series\.
+ Experience with successful performance in DOE audits and inspections\.
+ Experience working within a direct funded program and interfacing with SFO, NNSA, and DOE\.
+ Demonstrated ability for leading and managing teams to produce high quality products on schedule in a dynamic and stressful environment\.
+ Experience and commitment to excellence in high\-formality, highly regulated activities requiring formality of operations subject to audit and inspection\.
+ Strong organizational, interpersonal, and negotiating skills, to include strong verbal and written communication skills\.
+ Ability to prioritize and delegate to successfully respond to simultaneous and competing requirements\.
+ Commitment to Sandia organizational values\.
+ Experience with workforce planning and team development\.

Department Description:

The Physical Security Department provides physical security in support of SNL Mission Initiatives\. There are \(4\) main areas within the Physical Security Department: Protection Planning & Risk Analysis, Security Areas, Secure Storage \(VTRs\) and Barriers & Delay \(Lock & Keys\)\. The Physical Security Department supports a holistic security model across the security topical areas aligned to DOE security requirements\. The Physical Security department collaborates and partners with other departments within and outside the Safeguards and Security Center\. The department also provides Physical Security support to Tonopah Test Range \(TTR\) Mission and other remote and contract sites\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance to start\.

Position requires an active Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted L\-level security clearance or active clearance with another US government agency, e\.g\., DOD, to be considered for this position\.
