Job Description

:

We are seeking an Intern \- Mechanical Engineer R&D Undergraduate Summer\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Work on a multidisciplinary team of electrical and mechanical engineers to develop software tools and hardware to facilitate testing and design of telemetry systems
+ Apply systems engineering principals and methodologies to define and produce a product\.
+ Prepare and deliver presentation to peers and managers\.

Required:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time \(or scheduled to graduate in the spring\) in an accredited undergraduate program
+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U\.S\. citizenship

Note: If you have not yet started your undergraduate program, please apply to a high school intern position\.

**Additional Requirements**

+ Junior or senior level student currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field

Desired:

+ Coursework or project experience in mass properties, design and/or fabrication
+ MATLAB programming experience
+ CAD experience
+ Interest in multidisciplinary work
+ Mechatronics or controls experience preferred, but not required
+ Knowledge of and applied experience with scientific and engineering methods
+ Knowledge of and experience with designing, planning, and executing research, design, and development projects
+ Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines
+ Good verbal and written communication skills

Department Description:

The JTA Sensor System Engineering Department designs, tests, and fields instrumentation systems for weapons and other applications\. The department supports diverse programs including JTAs for stockpiled weapons systems, developmental telemetry systems and advanced technology development in support of the department's instrumentation mission\. The department has a broad mix of skills and technical resources in areas such as digital communication, sensors, RF/microwave, FPGA design, power supply technology, general electronics circuit design, DSP algorithm and coding and mechanical design\.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted security clearance\.
