Job Description


We are seeking R&D S&E, Electronics Engineers to work in a multidisciplinary team environment in designing and developing electronic/mechanical components, subsystems, and systems for national defense programs, homeland security, and non\-defense applications\. The candidate is expected to have the ability to create innovative solutions to difficult technical problems\. The candidate will work with a wide variety of technical staff including electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, designers, analysts, materials scientists, fabrication specialists, test personnel as well as project managers\. The items being developed include electronic devices and mechanical structures\. Projects can range from early conceptual development, to development engineering, to sustainment of fielded product\. Team size varies by project but typically consists of 3~25 technical staff\. Potential job assignments may include activities such as: originate design concepts for systems and components; integrate components within a system; develop requirements documentation and traceability; guide technology maturation efforts; conduct design trades; evolve and qualify fabrication and assembly techniques; develop and execute qualification plans, surveillance plans, and/or test plans; analyze test data; test and troubleshoot electronic components; identify failure modes and perform failure analysis; perform trending analysis; serve as technical interface with component designers, production facilities, and material scientists; represent Sandia to various government agencies\.


+ A bachelor’s and master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline\. The requirement for a master’s degree can be waived for candidates with a bachelor’s and sufficient engineering experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform independent research and development\.
+ Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects\.
+ Works well in team\-oriented environment and work cooperatively with other internal organizations, as well as external production facilities and suppliers\.
+ Excellent verbal communication and technical writing skill\.
+ Ability to travel up to 25%\.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U\.S\. DOE Q\-level security clearance\.


+ A bachelor’s and master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline plus two or more years of experience\.
+ Active DOE Q or DoD TS security clearance\.
+ Academic or job experience in areas such as: analog circuit design, RF system design, embedded system design, electromagnetic radiation \(EMR\) effects on electronics\.
+ Experience with electronic device production processes and testing
+ Experience with testing electronics, with clear mastery of tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, etc\.
+ Experience with soldering, building cables and fixtures for testing purposes\.
+ Experience with design and analysis tools \(e\.g\. Matlab and LabVIEW\)
+ Experience with qualification testing
+ Experience with troubleshooting and performing failure analysis on electronic devices
+ Experience with electrical and/or mechanical CAD tools\.

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
